The Meat & Wine Co. provides a consistently excellent dining experience. Their focus on quality is immediately apparent, particularly with the premium steaks which are prepared and cooked with impressive skill. The ambiance is warm and inviting, lending itself to a relaxed and enjoyable evening with friends or family. It’s a great choice for celebrating a special occasion or simply enjoying a delicious meal.
The attentive and professional service enhances the overall impression. While attention to detail regarding surprises could be improved, the staff are clearly dedicated to providing a memorable visit. I would recommend them for their focus on halal meat options and a selection of fine wines. It is a solid choice for those seeking a high-end steakhouse.

We came here to celebrate my friend’s birthday and overall had a lovely evening. The steaks were excellent – cooked perfectly, full of flavor, and definitely worth coming back for.
The only small disappointment was that the staff asked my friend (the birthday girl) directly if they should bring the cake out, which spoiled the surprise we had planned. It would have been much nicer if they had checked with the rest of us instead.
Other than that, the service was friendly, and the food was fantastic. I’d recommend this place for the quality of the steaks, but a little more attention to detail with special occasions would make the experience even better.

Had a Special dinner date, the atmosphere was fantastic. The service was top notch.
The food….. exceptional
Tried the entree platter, flavour bombs!!
The butter dry aged rib eye was to die for! 100% recommend. And thank you to the staff who were all amazing. Treated like royalty, a very pleasurable experience all round.

Excellent steaks and dessert!
This place is always busy and once you eat here you understand why.
The service and ambiance are very good.
The steaks are the highlight.
We couldn’t try the premium aged variety since the cooking time was going to be too long and we didn’t want to wait. So we had their O’Connor New Yorker range which was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. All their meat is halal.
I tried the sticky date with gelato and loved that too.
Highly recommend Meat & Wine in Adelaide!

I did an Express Lunch with my family on a weekday. We ordered 3 courses Express Lunch $54 per person with one drink (soft drink, juice or wine), entree, main dish and a dessert.
Food quality was generally OK with consideration of this price. The rump steak was a bit disappointed as the quality was not quite differentiated from anyone priced at $20 amongst the thousands of pubs in Australia.
All other entrees, mains, and desserts were between above average to good, but nothing was super amazing.
Having considered the perfect services offered by the servers, the luxury dining environment and the price is inclusive of a drink (can be red or white wine), I would still consider this best value for money and was a good deal.
Happy to return on different occasions with friends or colleagues, just like a decent social gathering or business lunch. Booking is a must, as the restaurant was full on my visit which was a weekday.

The steaks were absolutely delicious. The char grill flavour on the fine cuts of meat were divine. Kangaroo skewers were another level of delicious and same goes for the chicken skewers. Lemon flavour on that chicken was another level. Onion rings were unique. Though, the chips were quite disappointing, not as crunchy as the menu described.

Visited Meat & Wine Co in Adelaide City and it was an excellent dining experience overall.
I had the New York steak on the bone, cooked medium as recommended – and it was perfect. Juicy, tender, and full of flavour. Paired it with a great wine, which made the combination even better. The sides were just as impressive, especially the mac and cheese and the beef tartare – both rich and delicious.
The only small downside was the service being a little too attentive, with the waiter passing by every few minutes to check in, which felt a bit disruptive. Aside from that, everything was spot on.
If you’re looking for a quality steakhouse in Adelaide, I’d definitely recommend giving Meat & Wine Co a try.

Been coming here for about 10 years and first time since the re fit-out. Also the first time having a burger and it was amazing.. probably the best burger I’ve ever had…. Which is a big call, but true. The steaks here are amazing, along with all starters. Great vibe and can’t go wrong.

We went for the tasting menu which is absolutely a great experience. It starts from delicate flavours and gradually builds from there. Textures too. There are no trying-too-hard favours and such which we greatly appreciate – food shouldn’t be complicated, if you know what I mean. Service is impeccable. Wine recommendations are superb. It’s a busy place but there is still personal space between tables. We will be back.

Visiting Adelaide for holiday, my partner and I booked this place randomly.
Nice quiet place, atmosphere pleasant and intimate.
We chose the set menu they had at the time and got to try things we wouldn’t normally go for – the Fregola dish! That was the highlight for me.
Phenomenal. Portions were good between us and we left happy.

booked for a Valentine’s Day dinner over a month in advance, arrived and we were told to sit outside. Upon booking it advised the menu selection was not set, however we were then told it was a specific set menu. The entree we were served to share was ridiculously small portioned, and the gnocchi fritti served was laughable for a chef to serve that on a plate. $215 for a very disappointing experience, no value for money. Staff were nice, but long wait times in-between service

Hands down, the BEST steak I’ve ever had in my life —and I know my steaks! Every bite was perfection: tender, juicy, and cooked to absolute mastery. The presentation? Stunning —every dish looked like a piece of art.
We also shared a few starters, and wow, they were next-level! Perfectly cooked, beautifully plated, and bursting with flavour .
Wait times were a bit longer than expected ⏳, but I think it was because we asked to share starters (our bad ). Totally worth the wait, though—flawless experience overall!
If you’re in Adelaide, do yourself a favour and check this place out!

Robbed – A party of 5 dined here for my sons birthday. I can only describe the portions as ridiculous. Two of us ordered the Blue Swimmer Crab Pappardelle for $38 each and it was entree size, with a small amount of crab placed on top. The chef should be ashamed of himself for letting that leave. The burger looked like a slider and was once again foolish. It looked like a kiddies meal. The bread we ordered was a thin and small baguette slice, half the size of my palm. There were two steaks ordered, a bowl of fries and a bowl of potato sides and also another pasta dish that was incredibly small. We all left hungry and went somewhere else to finish off.
We had friends ask us about the dinner as they were planning to go and we recommended they dine elsewhere.
There are much better places that don’t skimp on the food. Try Georges on Waymouth (just up the road) or the Meat and Wine Co.
We will never return.

We dined here on Saturday night, and the food was delicious. We particularly enjoyed the wagyu steak and soy pork bun. I deducted a star because there was a long wait between the entree and mains. The atmosphere on the first floor was more appealing than upstairs. We were seated next to an old, rickety room divider, which didn’t quite match the elegant, modern vibe of the cuisine—just a minor detail.

Customer Reviews
We recently dined here and overall the food was quite good — the plating in particular was impressive, with each dish presented in a very unique and thoughtful way.
Service was generally friendly, though I did notice that when our table became dirty no one came to clean it, while the table next to us was wiped down promptly. Perhaps it was an oversight, but it was noticeable.
The most disappointing part of the experience was when a cockroach crawled across our table in the middle of the meal. We informed the chef directly, and he simply brushed the cockroach onto the floor without any explanation or apology. For a fine dining restaurant of this level, the lack of acknowledgment was just as surprising as the incident itself. It really affected the rest of our dining experience. Honestly, this is not something you would expect at one of Adelaide’s top fine dining venues. (Photo attached)
Additionally, getting into the restaurant was confusing. Our GPS directed us to a different entrance and we ended up paying for parking, then walking nearly 15 minutes because the surrounding gates were closed. We even called the restaurant but were told calls are only answered between 10am–3pm, which felt unusual for a fine dining venue. Eventually, we realized that the confirmation email did mention the correct gate, but it was easy to miss. Making this detail clearer would really help, as the Botanic Garden has many entrances and missing it significantly reduced the overall experience.

We spent Sunday at Restaurant Botanic enjoying wine, service and most the dishes. Honestly, I couldn’t fault the venue – it is operated like a machine with super engaging and informed staff. The dishes were wide ranging in taste and texture but all consistent on bite sized morsels. There were a few where the botanic or vinegar or sour taste was too much. Overall, it was a nice, one off experience in Adelaide

Sunday afternoon celebrating Bessy’s birthday at Restaurant Botanic was an incredible adventure! We had the pleasure bravely experiencing the unexpected culinary journey we never had before.
We were truly impressed by their masterful use of Australian native ingredients like crocodile fat, emu egg, and marron claw, creating a delightful array of savoury and sweet surprises.
A standout highlight was the garden-foraged tea, sourced right from their backyard! We loved blending our own custom mixes and having them served in exquisite teaware.
Huge compliments to the chefs for their talent and experimental spirit, and a big thank you to the staff for making us feel so welcomed with their attentive service. A truly unique and memorable high tea!

One of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life, really showcasing native Australian ingredients. The food is so well balanced and beautifully presented, and the staff are informative and friendly. You can tell that the chefs love the food they’re making and really celebrate it. The meal also moved at a good pace. Highly recommend!

I had an unforgettable dining experience at the Botanic restaurant in Adelaide on March 8th. Nestled within the beautiful Adelaide Botanic Gardens, the ambiance was serene and beautifully complemented by the lush surroundings. I opted for the “Feed Me” menu, which offered an exquisite selection of dishes that showcased the chef’s creativity and attention to detail.
One of the standout dishes was the kangaroo, which was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Each course was a delightful surprise, bursting with fresh flavors and thoughtfully paired ingredients. The presentation was impeccable, turning each plate into a work of art.
Our server, Harris, was exceptional. His attentiveness and knowledge greatly enhanced our dining experience, offering insightful recommendations and ensuring that we were well taken care of throughout the meal.
The Botanic restaurant truly exceeds expectations with its innovative cuisine and stunning setting. I give it a solid 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a remarkable dining adventure in Adelaide.

This was a special evening with my 3 little people as I am moving to Canada for a few years so kind of a last supper! We had a totally faultless evening. The food was well thought out the space between each course was perfect, the service of each course and the wine pairing were perfectly explained, we all came away feeling that this had been one of the best if not the best meals we have had together. Great work from all of you and looking forward to a return evening when I get back home.

We didn’t get past the entrees!
Beautiful food served professionally & courteously.
If we weren’t given a table by the door the Atmosphere would have gotten a higher rating. That’s the price you pay booking on the day, I guess.
Delicious food especially the Brie in Red Wine. The meatballs were epic!

It isn’t a big showy place and could easily be missed. But it is a cosy restaurant. We didn’t order a lot for the 3 of us but it was filling enough. The side salad definitely tone down the strong and delicious flavour of our two mains. Honestly I would have ordered another salad!! Also the food came out quick.

Dianne and Bali were amazing- super kind and sweet. They still let me order dessert and didn’t rush me to finish it, even though it was very near closing time- I suspect the kitchen might’ve been closed already! They were really happy to chat and were very friendly.
Dianne also accompanied me to explore the Deli Cellar, though it was closed today. She explained some interesting things!
The dessert was 10/10- highly recommend the chocolate fondant with ice-cream.
Overall, amazing place and would definitely visit again next time! If the dessert was healthy and didn’t affect my weight, I would eat that every day…
Thank you, Dianne and Bali!!!

An Unforgettable Explosion of Flavour & Hospitality
My husband and I recently had the absolute pleasure of dining at this hidden gem, and what an experience it was! We sat at the bar not expecting the experience we were going to have. To say the food is Thai-inspired and full of flavour would be an understatement — every dish delivered an unforgettable bomb of taste that lingered long after the meal ended. Each bite was a perfect balance of freshness, spice, and depth. My husband and I love food and would have to say, Kiin definitely makes you feel you are in Thailand, not Adelaide.
The kitchen had a calm, composed energy that was a joy to watch — true chef culture in action. There was no stress, just passion and precision. The wait staff were incredible — welcoming, warm, and genuinely helpful in guiding us through the menu. They encouraged us to try new things, which made the experience feel like an adventure rather than just a dinner.
A special shoutout to Darren at the bar, who made our night even more memorable with his generosity and enthusiasm, offering us a few taste tests of cocktails (which were amazing!). Our waitress was equally impressive — knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate about both the food and the drinks.
We left feeling completely satisfied, cared for, and already planning our next visit. This place is a must for anyone who appreciates flavour-forward cuisine, exceptional service, and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. Thank you for an incredible evening!

Every single thing we ate here was amazing. I don’t say that lightly, Thai food is my favourite cuisine and I was so happy (and full!) at the end of the meal. Service was excellent, accommodating us when I asked for another serve of something before our mains came out and prompt on drink service. Highly recommend and will be back.
*Also the added addition of Anthony Bourdain playing in the toilets was a funny and welcome surprise.

☆ 5/5
Had dinner here tonight as per a very good friend’s recommendation. If we talk solely about the food – it is innovative and mostly tasted really good (i.e. buratta and roti). Definitely would recommend to do a degustation rather than ala carté – as the pricing is way above midpoint price. A single piece of an arancinni is $8! It is tad too expensive for such restaurant with such casual atmosphere. In saying that, I gave Food a 4 because there was a missed opportunity to appreciate the other flavours in the dishes due to the build up of spiciness of the dishes (which may be due to the sequencing of the degustation). It felt like it was almost masking the taste. I do acknowledge that Thai food is spicy, but surely it is not the only single flavour which made it among global cuisine favourites. They should take it down a notch, really. But other than the price and level of spiciness, this fusion restaurant offers an interesting version of Thai cuisine.
Atmosphere is good, too. Be mindful though that the tables are squished and close to each other.
Service – where do I start? Upon arriving, did not expect anything really. Nothing special, front of the house was very transactional – I did not feel any attempt to establish rapport with patrons. The guy named Thor was knowledgeable, he was good actually and made conversation with the entire table. The rest of the staff was just, I dunno, not really present in the moment. Then came this tattoed guy who collected the plates and simply said somewhere along the line of “just an fyi, i will be bringing the bill as the next guests will be arriving, ok?” I guess it is how business works, transactional. Nothing wrong with that, though not what you expect from a restaurant. That was truly a lowlight – a bit imposing. The service was rushed – not the level of service you expect especially when you just spend half a grand. I guess it’s the 2-hour booking policy hence the rush but for an 8-course feed-me menu – it’s too rushed. We settled the bill and off we went. The front of the house did not say anything, no thank yous. They saw us leaving but, nothing. We did not feel the service level this restaurant takes pride of.
Food is a must-try but the service made us not to rush back here again.

The cheeseburgers were so phenomemal. We ordered another round of these amazing little things. The Buratta and roti was extraordinary. The squid skewers were okay. But goodness gracious, those cheeseburgers.
Staff were incredible and the atmosphere was wonderful. Cocktails are cheaper before 6pm. The actual venue itself is really pretty.

Quite disappointed about food. Everything tastes same, “Tom yum style”, very salty, sour and spicy. Thai food should also have peanut butter and sweet to balance sour and salt, but I could not find them in the food. I had to have lots of steam rice to soften the salt and sour. Unfortunately, the rice is not cooked in Asian way, but hardcore. The waiter forgot one dish I ordered, but I feel so lucky and didn’t remind him as I don’t want to suffer again. The only good thing is the wine I had. However,I sadly found that it doesn’t pare with the food I ate.

Customer Reviews
The prosciutto was the stand out dish. We had an unfortunate experience with the oysters. There was a worm/centipede in the dish when it arrived. Although a new dish was brought out, it would have been nice to have received a gesture for this, however we were ushered out towards the end of the session (6-8pm) although the longer session was due to delays in food delivery rather than us lingering. The atmosphere is nice but unfortunately the night was tarnished by the service.

I had the great pleasure of dining in with my work mate at Herringbone on another business trip to Adelaide.
Our server was very charming and recommended the sharing menu. Additionally we have a wonderful selection of red wines. The kitchen stayed open as we were the last customers which we were grateful for.
Highly recommend Herringbone for delicious modern Australian cuisine that uses the best ingredients.

We had a lovely evening at Herringbone.
The service was friendly and attentive, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere. The food was fresh and full of flavour, and the Salomon Wieden & Berg Gruner Veltline was a perfect match.. smooth, elegant, and beautifully recommended. A fantastic spot for great food, wine, and service.
Portions were quite generous, perfect for sharing.
Highly recommend!!! ☺️

Passing thorough on our way back to Melbourne… we asked for some food recommendations… this name came up a few times… and after eating there …deservedly so
Great menu.. concentrating on the sharing idea… and a good wine list with a good range of wine by the glass options….
Will seriously think about eating here when passing through in future

The food not only filled us up but also truely filled our hearts and soul. It was warming and felt homey. We picked items off the a la carte menu and stared at every single dish that was being served from the kitchen. If we had more stomachs, no doubt we would have ordered everything off the menu.
The oysters were spectacular, the duck terrine was a delight to eat and the grilled chook made us forget to speak to each other. We truely were immersed in the food.

We chose this restaurant for Valentine’s Day, and it had a lovely, intimate atmosphere. Overall, it was a great experience. The food was good, but I think the meat on the menu was a bit too fatty, which made me feel slightly uncomfortable later at night. Other than that, everything was enjoyable!

Can’t believe we’ve lived here 5 years and not previously tried this gem!
The food is outstanding, really unique flavour combinations and generous servings. Plate sharing the way to roll. They cleverly stagger the dishes coming out, rather than dump all you order on you at same time. Spent a really enjoyable 3 hours grazing our way through deliciousness.
Service was fantastic, the service staff were clearly run off their feet but we didn’t have to wait long if we needed anything.
Highly recommended.

Ticked this off our list of ‘to go restaurants’ with a date night with wifey!
Great hospitality and awesome food!
We had the chicken and lamb with martini and shiraz, finishing up with a plate of tiramisu.
Some music could have added to the experience.
Highly recommended!

Went out for a birthday lunch. Service and attention to details was outstanding. The food was good and big serve but perhaps a bit too salty. One of us had the pumpkin, it was very rich but lovely flavour. Overall it was an outstanding experience, highly recommend and will be back.

Beautiful setting for an Anniversary dinner. First course was amazing : the Lobster Ravioli and Mushroom medley (pics). Slight hitch with one of our mains, which was addressed quickly and replaced with another delicious main. Service was exemplary and it’s never happened to us before: they didn’t charge us for the original or the replacement main. Make sure you are hungry, as both the entree and mains are substantial. Love Jolleys and we will be back soon.

Exquisite! Book a table and go immediately. It is absolute French cuisine heaven. Service was brilliant, the atmosphere and decor intimate. From the appertif on arrival, to the creme brulee to end it was divine. Favourites included the 4 butters and bread, and duck with truffle mash – I can’t express enough how good the truffle mash is. The cocktail and wine lists are long. We will definitely be back!

Small little French restaurant with a funky atmosphere. Now, if the staff weren’t French they did an amazing job with their accents. We ordered the tasting plate starting with 3 different butters and crusty bread. I forgot to take a picture. Then came the raw salmon and oh my, it tasted great. It was my favourite dish. Next was the fillet Mignon. A small piece of very tender meat that went down a treat.
Then came the confit of duck. Super tender duck leg with truffle mash potato. An absolute delight.
Next was the trio of cheese. It was nice but the plate seemed a bit empty. Not that I wanted more but looked a bit skimpy. This is my only fault I could find.
And to finish off the night, we had a trio of desserts. My favourite was the creme caramel. Yum.
We had 3 different types of gin and tonic which worked well with the food.
A place to go if you are wanting a little something different and to splurg a little.
Give this place a go.

Stayed at the Pullman Hotel for 2 nights and had dinner here twice! Fantastic location literally outside our hotel!
Friendliest staff with the amazing French menu and cocktail! Loved their notti themed drink menu.
Restaurant is quite small with 9- 10 small tables (in my opinion) therefore booking is highly recommended.
All in all the …best French hospitality!
Ps: Do not have highchairs
Will be back!

From the start, quiet perfection. An amuse-bouche with the shortest pastry I’ve encountered this side of a patisserie—so delicate, yet so flavour-packed it lingered long after.
Then foie gras with fig compote and toasted brioche, beautifully paired with a glass of Pineau des Charentes. The fig and the richness of the liver were lifted by the lightly fortified wine, each working in harmony without overshadowing the others.
But the surprise? The bread and butter. this wasn’t ordinary butter. This was cultured, churned, possibly sung to—whatever they did, it was sublime. So good, in fact, I ended the meal on it. No regrets, though I probably should’ve ordered the cheese.
It’s rare to leave a restaurant already planning your return, but here we are. No theatrics. No gimmicks. Just elegance, restraint, and a deep understanding of flavour. I’ll be back.

Absolutely the best restaurant I’ve been to in Adelaide since moving here six months ago. The food was truly delicious — every dish was beautifully crafted and full of flavour, easily comparable to what I’ve had in France. The duck confit was especially outstanding — perfectly cooked and incredibly tasty. I have been here for many times but I especially loved the special menu for Fête nationale française from last night — both the concept and the flavours were excellent. The service was also top-notch — the staff were warm, friendly, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Highly recommended!

We came here for a dinner and the food was just wonderful. We had the tasting menu and couldn’t fault anything at all. The cocktails were great too. The Confit de Canard was very tasty, and Le Petit Tartare was a memorable standout. You know how creme brûlée can be overly sweet, but no, your creme brûlée was very light and airy which suited our palate very well to end the evening.

Had the opportunity to dine at Maison Clement for my better half’s birthday. It did not disappoint at all! From the restaurant’s cozy vibes to friendly staff members, and most importantly, the delicious food made it an evening to remember! Had the degustation menu which I thought was reasonably priced. I had the French onion soup, the wagyu striploin and the creme brulee for dessert, all of them were top notch! Especially the wagyu, which was one of the best I’ve had in Adelaide. Portion sizes were quite big too. Highly, highly recommend this place for a romantic date night or a gathering with family/friends. Hope to come back again!

Pleasantly surprised by this award winning French patisserie and restaurant that was at the hotel I was staying in.
Excellent selection of pastries at very reasonable prices. I asked for my pain suisse chocolate to be warmed. Crispy flakey skin that is fluffy within, with hazelnut chocolate filling. Had several other pastries for takeaways on other days- croissant was excellent

Very nice ambience, spacious place and friendly staff. Many seats available. We had salmon for fish of the day. It’s really nice. The aubergine was good and crunchy and goes well with the sauce. The prawn currie is just ok. It’s mild and a bit salty. Creme brulee was perfect. There’s a singer serenading to the customers while we were eating.

We had an absolutely wonderful experience dining here for Valentine’s Day! The food was exceptional—beautifully presented, full of flavor, and perfectly cooked. The service was also outstanding, with attentive and professional staff who made sure everything was just right.
It’s worth mentioning that our first experience with the Butler Package didn’t meet expectations, but the management truly went above and beyond to make it right. They invited us back, and this time, everything was flawless. It’s clear they take customer feedback seriously, and I really appreciate the effort they put into ensuring a great experience.

The food was absolutely amazing! The curated menu may be small, but every dish is clearly crafted with care, not a single item disappoints. It’s a case of quality over quantity, and everything we tried was beautifully executed and full of flavour. The service was exceptional, warm, attentive, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. The chefs coming out to chat with diners was such a nice touch and really added to the welcoming, personal feel of the night. And the cocktails… incredible! After a run of underwhelming cocktails elsewhere, it was such a joy to find each one here was perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. A standout experience from start to finish!

If you are in Adelaide and wondering what to try, Luma is great choice! The couple of time I visited, the staff was friendly with great ambiance. Cocktails were okay but food exceptional. Mushroom parfait was creamy and it’s mushroom flavour was not overly heavy. Seafood was fresh, pork was succulent and flavourful. Steak was a highlight, it is sous vide to perfection and seared to completion. Food has been well thought and flavourful with plenty of textures. At the price they are asking for, it won’t disappoint. Personal top 3 in Adelaide.

Can not recommend Luma restaurant enough, the food was exceptional, presentation wise & taste. Everything was delicious, there was vegetarian options available (I had the leek croquette & the pan fried gnocchi). Our waitress Jade was beautiful, she was very outgoing, friendly, happy & helpful, nothing was too much to ask, made us feel very comfortable.
The restaurant itself has a very romantic vibe, extremely luxurious and exclusive.
Can not recommend Luma enough to friends & family, will definitely be back!

Frequently asked questions about fine dining restaurants in Adelaide
What defines a fine dining restaurant?
A fine dining restaurant is generally characterized by a commitment to elevated cuisine, impeccable service, and a sophisticated atmosphere. This often involves high-quality ingredients, carefully crafted menus, a focus on presentation, and a formal dining experience. You’re typically looking at multiple courses, an extensive wine list, and a higher price point reflecting the quality and attention to detail.
How do I find reputable fine dining restaurants in Adelaide?
Finding a reputable fine dining experience starts with research. Look at online reviews from trusted sources, culinary blogs, and restaurant guides. Recommendations from friends and family who appreciate fine cuisine are also invaluable. You can also consult awards and accolades that restaurants have received, which often indicate a dedication to excellence. Local magazines and newspapers often feature reviews as well.
What is the typical price range for a meal at a fine dining establishment in Adelaide?
The price range for a meal at a fine dining restaurant in Adelaide can vary considerably, but generally, expect to pay upwards of AUD $80 per person for a three-course meal, excluding drinks. Tasting menus, which are common, can easily reach AUD $150 - $300+ per person. The cost is reflective of the quality of the ingredients, the expertise of the chef, and the overall level of service.
What kind of dress code should I expect?
While not always strictly enforced, most fine dining restaurants prefer a smart casual to formal dress code. Generally, think collared shirts and dress pants or a skirt and blouse for men, and a cocktail dress or dressy separates for women. It’s always a good idea to check the restaurant’s website or call ahead to confirm their specific dress code policy.
Should I make a reservation?
Absolutely. Making a reservation is essential, especially for popular fine dining restaurants in Adelaide. These establishments often have limited seating and can book up weeks, or even months, in advance. It's also important to specify any dietary requirements or special requests when making your reservation.
What are some common dishes served in Adelaide fine dining restaurants?
Adelaide's fine dining scene often showcases the region’s fresh produce and seafood. You can expect to see dishes featuring South Australian lamb, prawns and oysters. Many restaurants incorporate native Australian ingredients, such as bush tomatoes and lemon myrtle. Expect innovative presentations of familiar flavors.
What are some options for those with dietary restrictions or allergies?
Most fine dining restaurants are accommodating to dietary restrictions and allergies. It is absolutely crucial to inform the restaurant when making your reservation and again with the server. Be specific about your needs, as ingredients can be complex and cross-contamination is a risk. Many restaurants are willing to create customized dishes.
What is the role of wine in the fine dining experience?
Wine is an integral part of the fine dining experience. Adelaide is in a renowned wine region, and restaurants typically have extensive and carefully curated wine lists. A sommelier is often available to assist in selecting the perfect wine pairing for your meal. Don't be afraid to ask for recommendations; they are experts in matching wine and food.
Are tasting menus a standard offering?
Yes, tasting menus are a very common offering at fine dining restaurants. They provide a curated journey through the chef’s culinary creations, showcasing a variety of flavors and techniques. Tasting menus are a fantastic way to experience the full range of the restaurant’s offerings and allow you to try dishes you might not otherwise order.
What etiquette should I observe while dining at a fine dining restaurant?
While relaxed compared to some European traditions, certain etiquette is appreciated. Wait to be seated, keep your phone away from the table, avoid speaking too loudly, and express your appreciation to the staff. Allow servers to serve each course individually and remember to pace yourself. It's all about enjoying the overall experience.
