Disappointed. They offered a free assessment at our sons daycare centre and then pick and chose which children to see from those who responded. When asked if they would be coming back to see the children they “missed” , all they could say was “we’ll come back next year.”, & then provide links for me to click.
Not good enough. Do better.

We had a hearing test today for my 3 year old, who is usually quite sensitive to new environments.

All Ears was recommended to me by Hearing SA. There aren’t a lot of providers that deal with Auditory Processing Disorder for adults. The staff were friendly and helpful with scheduling around my work. My audiologist was Tom and he was kind, friendly, knowledgeable and clearly explained any and all questions I had. He wrote a comprehensive report with multiple options moving forward and helped me determine what would be best for me. The only downside was Medicare/insurance as not a lot was covered but that’s not their fault. Cannot recommend All Ears enough.

Diane Brown

All Ears & Speech came highly recommended to me so I thought I would give them a go. The staff were very nice and the hearing assessment very thorough, however I wouldn’t say the testing was anything outstanding or new. Be aware if you have BUPA you cannot claim their hearing test back as their provider numbers are not recognised by them. That’s on me – I should have checked first, but just a warning to everyone. I paid $198 for the test and it was the same test I could have got under Medicare. They scheduled a followup appointment to discuss hearing aids for $98, as I can’t claim I have cancelled the appointment.

We would like to express our gratitude to the whole team who has been helping us with our son. Our speech pathologist Angel Leung ,has been a great help , our son is learning and enjoys every session with her. She is very patient and great with kids. She also makes sure that we parents, understand every intervention/interaction that she does with our son. We can see progress on our son’s developmental skills (speech).

Our Key worker Xiaozhen (Jen) Wang , have been also a great help. She is very organised and supportive not only to our son but also to us, parents as well. Always gives strategies on how we can support our son’s developmental needs. She makes our journey manageable and less stressful.

We have been with everyday independence for probably 2 and a half years. My little person is now 5 and we have had the same key worker Keren for almost this entire time. She’s incredible. She goes above and beyond, is always available for questions and is so kind. Very disappointed, for the past 16 months we had 6 key workers who would resign from the company and a new one would come on board. The handover was shocking , each new key worker had to start from the beginning. They spent so much of our funding and provided no service . Our son sadly has the same challengers with limited improvements due to the poor commitment of staff. My biggest regret is not leaving sooner . Be careful if you choose everyday independence.

Everyday Independence has been very easy to deal with, great communication, reminder services and great access to different specialist in OT, speech, music therapy that my son has needed access. My son and I were lucky enough to be paired up Keren Hayes from Everyday Independence as his key worker and words simply cannot explain how much impact Keren has had in my son’s life. Her professionalism, experience, friendliness, follow through and hands on experience has really improved my son’s life. My son in non verbal and has cerebral palsy, autism and ADHD and he’s had to overcome a lot of adversity in his life so far and Keren has really helped with this. She is experienced in sign language, communication apps and device knowledge. She has made social stories to help my son’s anxiety with changes in his life. Music is my son’s language and Kerens teaching background in Music has been priceless to my son’s learning experience. I highly recommend using their services and if I could rate 10 stars I would.

We are so grateful for Jessica from Lollipop Speech Pathologist , who visits our twins’ childcare centre every week. Both of my 4-year-olds absolutely adore her and always look forward to her visits! Since we aren’t able to be present during the sessions, Jessica always provides detailed notes after each visit, which we find incredibly helpful. Liz Briggs

Our 11 year old daughter attended family time for a period of approximately 6 months after experiencing debilitating anxiety . The team were excellent from our first point of contact at reception right through to seeing the OT. They helped our daughter work through why she was feeling anxious and overtime assisted /educated her in self management strategies to aid lowering/managing her episodes of anxiety. This was a game changer further her and us as a family and we have not looked back since .
I would highly recommend family time to others who may have a child experiencing similar issues

My two sons have been clients of Family time for almost 3 years. When we started the environment was welcoming and supportive. Between them they attended 3 in clinic appointment a week with therapist who really helped them grow and face their challenges.
Over time, we started to notice slight changes. They had a receptionist that was so joyful and cheerful. She knew every client and parent by name and always welcomed you with a coffee and a smile… then they fired her. They did eventually replace her with someone that was almost as nice, but she is gone too now. Slowly, the good therapist began to leave 1 by one, and then at the end of last year they had a mass walk out of staff. All of their good staff. All of our sons therapists.
I can only imagine what the management put their employees through to have that kind of impact. 80% of their staff left at the same time.

Since then, we have tried to stick it out with Family Time, hoping it will get better. Slowly we have removed our children from OT and Speech and transferred them over to a different company for these therapies, but we stayed with family time for nutritional therapy and Psychosocial therapy… each visit we walk in with no greeting and no welcoming. We have to explain who we are and what we are there for each time we have an appointment as the receptionist change each week! They don’t say hello and they don’t acknowledge you half of the time. They have cut session times by quarter of an hour and still charge the same price (almost $300 a session). If your child is sick or an emergency comes up, they charge you full cost for the session with no leniency at all… 24 hours. That’s what you have. So if your child ends up in hospital 20 hours before your therapy session, you still need to pay the full session cost! They say family time, but they are not family orientated. They are money orientated. A complete lack of empathy and compassion has flooded this organisation.
I wanted to stick it out and hope it would get better to keep stability and familiarity for my boys, until this week!
We attended one of the boys sessions on Tuesday and the reception staff were rude and ignorant. When I walked into the foyer both reception staff saw me and stood in the door way trying to get a toy out from under a desk. They didn’t acknowledge me, they didn’t explain why they were both standing in the way… nothing. They just took turns getting in the door way for literally 10 minutes. They left me standing in the door way for 10 minutes until I decided to turn around and walk out.
When spoken to and asked what they were doing, one office lady just rolled her eyes at me and walked off… completely ignoring my question.

This once FANTASTIC company that thrived with skilled and caring therapists and staff has turned into a toxic and harsh money hungry chamber. My children use to love their family time appointments and now each week they try every excuse under the sun to get out of having to attend. My sons are almost guaranteed to have “a cold” or “a headache” every Tuesday… and I think that says everything.

We value the therapist… especially the nutritional therapist who is lovely… the issues here all lie with management and admin. Management and Admin let the entire team down. Good staff are wasted when management and admin drop the ball on client focused care.

Friendly, kind & professional staff who make the child’s sessions so fun that my daughter counts down the days until her next session! It makes juggling appointments that bit easier to have them all at the same location!
Highly recommend Family Time.

Un-professional. An email was sent to change an appointment without a follow up phone call when there was no reply to the email. To say unfortunately these things happen is just not acceptable. It all could have been avoided with a simple phone call. To travel in peak hour traffic to get there and find out your appointment has been cancelled through an email sent on Tuesday after lunch when the appointment is on that Thursday. Un-acceptable

Speech therapists, also known as speech-language pathologists, work with people of all ages who have communication and swallowing disorders. They assess, diagnose, and treat a range of conditions, including speech impediments, language delays, dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), and voice disorders. Their work encompasses both the physical and cognitive aspects of communication.

Who might benefit from seeing a speech therapist in Adelaide?

A wide range of individuals can benefit from speech therapy. This includes children experiencing developmental delays in speech or language, adults who have suffered a stroke or brain injury, individuals with neurological conditions such as Parkinson's disease, and people struggling with stuttering or other fluency disorders. Even those with voice concerns or difficulties with swallowing can find speech therapy helpful.

How do I find a qualified speech therapist in Adelaide?

To find a qualified speech therapist in Adelaide, several avenues are available. You can ask your pediatrician or general practitioner for a referral, search online directories listing registered therapists, or contact professional organizations like Speech Pathology Australia for a list of accredited professionals. Checking for registration and accreditation is crucial.

What does the initial assessment process involve?

The initial assessment typically involves a thorough case history review, including questions about the individual's communication challenges and medical background. The therapist will then conduct a series of formal and informal assessments to evaluate various aspects of speech, language, voice, and swallowing. This helps determine the nature and severity of the issue.

How long does speech therapy typically take?

The duration of speech therapy varies greatly depending on the individual's needs and the complexity of their condition. Consistent attendance and engagement are crucial for optimal progress.

Are speech therapy services covered by Medicare or private health insurance?

Coverage for speech therapy services can vary. Medicare may provide a limited number of rebates for specific conditions referred by a GP. Many private health insurance providers also offer partial coverage for speech therapy, but it is important to check the specific policy details beforehand. Some therapists may offer bulk billing options.

What is the difference between a speech therapist and an audiologist?

While both professionals work with communication, they address different aspects. Speech therapists focus on the production and understanding of speech and language, while audiologists specialize in hearing. An audiologist diagnoses and treats hearing loss and related disorders. Sometimes, individuals may benefit from the services of both professionals.

What can I do at home to support my child's speech development?

There are several ways to support a child’s speech development at home. Encourage them to talk regularly, read them books, engage in play-based learning activities, and provide a supportive and encouraging environment. Limiting screen time and actively listening to what they say are also beneficial.

What should I expect during a typical speech therapy session?

A typical speech therapy session will be tailored to the individual's needs and goals. It may involve a combination of activities, such as games, exercises, and structured practice, designed to improve specific communication skills. The therapist will provide feedback and guidance throughout the session, and often provide homework activities for continued practice.

Is it possible to overcome a speech impediment completely?

The degree to which a speech impediment can be overcome varies depending on the underlying cause and the individual's commitment to therapy. While some impediments can be corrected completely, others may require ongoing management and strategies to minimize their impact.
