Mary, my optometrist, provided excellent, thorough, and attentive care throughout my clinical eye treatment. She clearly explained everything and made sure I felt supported during the process. She stayed attentive with regular reviews, clearly committed to my recovery. I highly recommend Mary for knowledgeable and reliable care, especially if you have a clinical eye condition.

recently visited to get a pair of reading glasses and was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. The doctor was incredibly thorough with the eye exam and gave me clear, professional recommendations.
I was told the eye test would be free, but I was still charged for it — a little disappointing. That said, the doctor was very thorough and professional, and the staff were genuinely kind and helpful. I came in for one pair of reading glasses but ended up buying two — such a great selection! Thank you anyway, and I wish your business all the best and continued success.

Customer Reviews
Friendly staff and an excellent optician. Have been there for an eye test and set of eye glasses couple of times learnt something new about eyes every time.
I wish some of their proprietary frames looked a bit classier and like most of South Australian optical stores they don’t offer all the options that Transitions lenses offer. I don’t get why is that. If you want to get Extra Active or Driveware lenses you have to go or order them from overseas online optical stores. The only way to find out they exist is to search online as optical stores will try their best not to mention them.
I guess that is because of the horrendous prices we get charged for fancy lenses here in Australia.
I am not sure if any other stores offer those options and what the prices would be. Maybe better not to know.

Best experience getting an eye test and then new glasses. I think it was a record for how quickly it was all picked out and sorted. The staff were brilliant! The optometrist was very friendly and explained what was going on and in normal human fashion, non of the clinical stuff and then the staff who were just as friendly and honest, non of this fake customer service just want to make a sale stuff. They helped me pick new frames and weren’t pushy about selling extras. They know there stuff and suggested frames that suited me and my style.
Can’t wait to pick up my new specs
Thank you Rundle Mall Bailey Nelson

I had a great experience at the Rundle store on sat. I was concerned about my eye and has gone to all the other optometrists on Rundle mall hoping someone had a free appointment for me but no success. This was my last store and was not hopeful. The young girl at the front was delightful and helped me which was amazing. The optometrist was so thorough as well. Thank you so much.

I had an eye test recently at Bailey Nelson. Phuong was very friendly and professional, checked out my eye health thoroughly and prepared a new prescription for my lenses.
I subsequently obtained some new prescription sunglasses and the staff helped me choose some smart-looking frames and arranged for them to be made up. I am very happy with the result.

Customer Reviews
I had an exceptional experience at Adelaide City Optometrists. After searching online for a glasses repair shop, I was so glad to find this place, which is a bit tucked away from the main city traffic. This was my first time visiting, and I needed to get a broken nose pad replaced on a pair of glasses I hadn’t even bought from them.
On a busy Saturday morning, they fixed my frames in less than 15 minutes! When I asked if I could buy a protective case, Amelia was incredibly kind and gave me a small Zeiss case for free.
It’s rare to find this level of customer service today, and I’m really happy to have discovered this store. Thank you for the fantastic service and kindness. A definite 5-star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐experience!

they offer frame repair, and the result is simply amazing… The thing is, they promised that it only took 5 days, but ended up 2 weeks, they sent the glasses to a repairer in QLD which is won’t make any sense if it only takes 5 days

☆ 5/5
My lenses and prescription are great, the optometrist was great, the store service was terrible!!!
Point 1, they kept me waiting for over 30 mins for my optometrist appointment. It’s an appointment – look up the definition!.
Point 2, communication between the optometrist and the store staff was awkward, and they got my initial script wrong! This was only picked up by me because the store lost some information and I had to go back to the store to measure my glasses frames again and I enquired about what I was actually getting.
Point 3, the staff were SO awkward and barely spoke to me about the $700 purchase I was making. There was no conversation with me at all. I have no idea if I got any scratch proofing or any other offerings. They just seemed to bumble around and then said come back in two weeks, we’ll call you.
Point 4, I tried to enquire in the store about the process of getting the multi-focal lenses right for me and they seemed to just ambiguously say “yes”. I could not draw them out on the process or anything else. I had no confidence that my purchase was going to be what I had discussed with the optometrist.
Point 5, They didn’t even offer me glasses cases or cleaner. I just spent over $700 buck there and had to ask for a case!
Point 6, I filled in the contact form on their web site and asked them to call me as I had some questions – that was two weeks ago.
Point 7, I hated the way they treated an older man in the store who also had some questions. They spoke way too loud and condescending and treated him like he was a child.
I really hope the manager reads this – your store needs to re-think their customer experience.
I won’t be back.

The team are super helpful and provide A+ service. My glasses broke and I was expecting to be without them for a week or two. Not only did they replace the frame for a brand new one but they did it then and there. Even gave me a contact lenses cases to swap them for my glasses. This was so important to me as I get headaches if I wear contact lenses for too long. Incredible service! I will definitely be a customer for life! Especially when you consider how easy it is to re-order contact lenses through them.

First part of the review is for newton specsavers. I got my first prescription glasses in October 2024. Since then I had to go to specsavers 3 more times as my prescription was not correct and were getting headaches. They replaced my second glasses I got in April 2025 under 3 months warranty but refused to change my first one from October 2024 even though their first prescription was not right. Prescription they gave me first time had an expiry for 2 years which was not correct and was adjusted to new even they still refuse to change first glasses made with incorrect script which are under 12 months.
Second part is for rundle mall.
Rachel was helpful. Person who was helping me with pricing for multifocal was not empathetic at all and was not even replying to my concerns about the issue above. I work in customer service and acknowledge customer’s concerns but this person did not have any customer service skills. She was not even acknowledging my concerns. Very disappointed with my overall experience with specsavers.

I was 8 minutes late to my appointment and when I arrived a woman told me she’d be right back, but wasn’t back for 7 minutes. I am certain of the times because I had a paediatrician appointment scheduled afterwards and I was worried that I wouldn’t have time for my appointment afterall. Another woman approached me and said that, because I was late, they wouldn’t be able to fit me in. I didn’t mind this so much as I was worried about the later appointment anyway. What I did mind was the tone she used, so I pointed out that I was not very late, so she pointed out that I was 15 minutes late, so I pointed out that I was actually 8 minutes late and then waited for someone to talk to me. The original woman had come back by this time and exclaimed, “Not 15 minutes!” in an aggressive tone. To this I clarified that I was 8 minutes late and then waited for 7 minutes for someone to check me in and left.
I would expect this type of customer service from very young people, or perhaps at a fast food outlet, but not from 50 year old women at an Optometrist appointment. The whole thing could have been avoided if they had modified their tone of voice. Anyway, as I won’t be using SpecSavers Rundle Mall anymore, neither will my husband or children, so that’s several customers lost. We have been using SpecSavers for at least 10 years, so we will probably use another store nearby, but I would recommend some customer service/dispute resolution training for the elderly women at the Rundle Mall store. I spent about 8 years in complaints and dispute resolution, so I know how it’s done and this was not it today.

We went to ask for adjustment of our specs we bought from other specsaver store but nobody even bother to come and help. Most of the staff were just trying to avoid eye contact and just looking here and there. If new customer comes then suddenly staff gets active. Poor service. Left without any hep from them.

I had a poor experience purchasing glasses from this clinic. When I first arrived, they performed an eye exam and concluded that my left eye was at 0.00 and my right eye at 0.25. After about 30 minutes, the doctor prescribed my glasses. I was clear that I needed them for computer use to reduce eye strain. After 12 days, they called me to pick up the glasses.
However, when I tried them on, I noticed a shadow around lights, no matter the distance. This was very distracting and even caused me to feel dizzy. When I explained this issue, they scheduled another appointment with the doctor to recheck the prescription. Then, they told me that to fix the problem, I would need an anti-reflective coating for an additional $130. I was frustrated because I had specifically asked for glasses to protect my eyes while working at a computer, and they should have informed me about this option from the start.
On top of that, the customer service was disappointing. One of the staff members, a young woman whose name I can’t remember, was not professional and didn’t treat me kindly, which added to the negative experience. Overall, I would not recommend this clinic if you’re looking for knowledgeable guidance and good customer service.

The owner of the Optical Outlet is Korean. He is professional and reasonable to customers who want to repair their glasses. He also advised the right way to fix the problem in many ways. Lauren basically saved my sight by picking up a serious condition and getting me to an ophthalmologist (surgeon) to have emergency surgery. The care and dedication post op has also been exceptional. My initial call was to SA Health Direct who then pushed me through to Virtual ED, then to Lauren. A brilliant service throughout and I am so very thankful.

Eye test was thorough and explanations given pitched to my knowledge level.
Lauren was courteous and options were fully discussed.
Although my eyesight hadn’t changed from last year I decided to treat myself to a new pair of glasses as the technology had improved further; there was no pressure put on me to do this.
I have been going there for my eye checks for years and would not hesitate to recommend them to others

Customer Service was pathetic. One item was delayed & I was asked to pick up the other. But none told me in 3 telephonic calls that I have to pay >93% of the total invoice value before collecting it. Secondly, when I showed the paid receipts when I went for collection, there was a lot of ambiguity in terms remaining value to be paid. Customer service agent was totally confused & with wrong calculations, she was insisting to pay more than the total invoice value. I was showing her the receipts but she was not willing to look at it. Finally, we decided to come back when the second frame would be available. Please note that I called up 3 hrs in advance before going with my family on the boxing day. It was an embarrassing experience for all my family & it ruined our boxing day time. Although the manager was apologetic in her call only when I narrated the episode & not before that. I would not recommend you as I associated higher customer service standards with you.

I came in to get some glasses, and the team at the opt shop was amazing. The girls who helped me made me feel so comfortable. I explained that I’ve been struggling to find frames that suit me because of my high cheekbones—most glasses tend to rest on my cheeks. But they listened, helped me find the perfect pair, and it was a total success!
I’m very happy!

Thanks to Hannah the Optometrist who did an exceptional Optical examination, it was thorough and very professional (Ps the equipment was state of the art).
Then I had the lovely Teresa front of shop organising my glasses with a minimum of fuss for a script that was a little different.
Highly professional staff ,with a prompt turnaround time for my new script from the OPT SHOP OPTOMETRY.
Very much appreciated and enjoyable experience.

Wandered in on a busy Saturday after a bad experience with a chain optometrist’s, didn’t have an appointment. Was made to feel really welcome, fixed my existing glasses free of charge, offered a thorough check up via an appointment later the same day and gave honest and helpful feedback when I decided to purchase new frames. If you want to feel welcome and appreciated avoid the chains and go to an independent like Opt Shop where they still appreciate your business and actually know what they doing – thank you Opt shop!

Frequently Asked Questions about Optometrists in Adelaide
What does an optometrist do?
An optometrist is a healthcare professional who provides primary eye care. They examine eyes for vision problems and eye diseases. This includes assessing visual acuity, performing eye health assessments, and prescribing glasses and contact lenses. They also offer advice on eye care and can refer patients to an ophthalmologist or other specialists when necessary.
How often should I get my eyes tested?
The frequency of eye examinations varies depending on individual factors such as age, family history, and overall health. Generally, adults should have an eye test every one to two years. Children should have their first eye exam around the age of three, and then regularly thereafter. People with diabetes, glaucoma, or a family history of eye disease may need more frequent exams.
What is the difference between an optometrist and an ophthalmologist?
While both optometrists and ophthalmologists are involved in eye care, their roles differ. Optometrists are primarily focused on vision correction, eye health assessments, and prescribing corrective lenses. Ophthalmologists, on the other hand, are medical doctors who specialize in all aspects of eye care, including medical and surgical treatment of eye diseases. They can perform procedures that optometrists cannot.
What should I expect during an eye exam?
During an eye exam, the optometrist will typically ask about your medical history and vision concerns. They will then perform various tests, including a visual acuity test, refraction test (to determine your prescription), and a comprehensive eye health assessment using specialized equipment. You may be asked to read letters, look through lenses, and dilate your pupils for a more detailed examination.
Do I need to be referred to an optometrist?
No, you do not need a referral to see an optometrist. Optometrists are primary healthcare providers, meaning you can book an appointment directly without needing a referral from a general practitioner. This makes it easier and more convenient to access eye care.
What types of vision correction options are available?
Numerous vision correction options are available, including glasses, contact lenses (soft, rigid gas permeable, extended wear), and surgical procedures such as LASIK and PRK. The most suitable option depends on your individual needs, lifestyle, and eye health. An optometrist can assess your situation and recommend the best approach.
What is the importance of dilation during an eye exam?
Pupil dilation allows the optometrist to get a much clearer view of the retina, optic nerve, and other structures at the back of the eye. This is crucial for detecting early signs of eye diseases like glaucoma and macular degeneration, which may not be visible during a routine exam. The effects of dilation are temporary.
Can children wear contact lenses?
While it is possible for children to wear contact lenses, it requires careful consideration and parental involvement. Children need to be responsible and diligent about lens care and hygiene to avoid complications. An optometrist will assess a child's maturity and suitability before fitting them with contacts.
How do I care for my contact lenses?
Proper contact lens care is essential for maintaining eye health and preventing infections. This includes washing your hands thoroughly before handling lenses, using the correct lens solution, cleaning and storing lenses in a clean case, and replacing lenses according to the recommended schedule. Your optometrist can provide detailed instructions on lens care.
What should I do if I experience eye pain or vision changes?
Any sudden eye pain, blurred vision, floaters, or other unusual vision changes should be investigated promptly. It’s important to contact your optometrist or a medical professional immediately to rule out any serious eye conditions. Delaying treatment could lead to permanent vision loss.
