Stepneys. Great place for the old. Came for a new plate for the door lock Gentleman in charge was very helpful. Lots of great stock.

This is a reply to Rebecca Scuphams review The reason the middle aged blonde woman kept saying what do you want me to say is because you were told that we did not have what you came for and you were told that we do not know where you would be able to source what you were looking for. You did not seem to understand she could not make a suggestion because there was nowhere that she could suggest! There was no hostility you were simply told that we were unable to help you and you did not like that. You were not followed to your car the sales person went out to your car after you had left the store and you were sitting in your car and you were crying. You opened the door and the sales person said to you that she did not appreciate the way you spoke to her and you were very aggresive and slammed the door in her face. If you are going to write a review for a business please get the facts right 🙂

A 1star rating is too much for this place. I had one of the most upsetting experiences I’ve ever had at a business. The middle-aged blonde woman I spoke to was very unhelpful, could not offer any kind of assistance with the door mechanism I needed to replace. She kept saying "what do you want me to say" when I asked for help and could not even make a suggestion of where else I could go. If you don’t know how to help, just say that, don’t treat customers with hostility. She needs to go to a customer service course immediately or to get a job that does not require manners or dealing with the public in any way. When I tried to leave, she followed me out to my car, held onto my car door, and would not let me go until I was in tears. I was shocked and completely shaken. This behaviour is not just unprofessional, it’s aggressive and totally unacceptable. I’ll be telling everyone I know to avoid this place. Do not under any circumstances go to Stepneys.

I used to come here before we went ice skating as kids. We were from the country so it was super cool seeing all the big animals, the trex was always a fave. When I own my own home, I'd love one of the animals for the yard

No longer "Stepney Salvage" this shop is mainly filled with reproduction goods, many of which are from overseas manufactured origin. All goods are reasonably priced, and appear to be excellent value. This is a great place to find a fireplace, mantle piece, old style lighting switches and door knobs, mirrors, doors, old Adelaide photos and timber elements for your heritage home. They lost one star for me when I visited because the manager/owner didn’t take my query about origin of timber seriously: when I asked where the timber came from for some elements, his answer was "trees" (I’m not going to buy timber that has no confirmed source of origin). They also lost a star from me for moving away from the salvage business (I understand it is likely more profitable to be like Bunnings and import new stuff to sell, but salvage is important to someone like me who cares about re-use of building materials instead of buying new). I will however certainly visit again when I need a new heritage light switch!

We live in a 1920s bungalow, so this place is handy to have nearby. It has an extensive range of doors, door handles, electrical fittings, fireplaces etc for heritage homes .It also has memorabilia and photos as well as a range of secondhand furniture. Prices are reasonable and the service is helpful and friendly

We have been going to Stepneys for years. Sometimes buying nothing, just walking around having a look at all the nice things to buy. Today we splurged and bought a few items that we fell in love with. Alex helped us out to the car and helped me load the cupboard into the car which was extremely heavy. Great service as always. See you again soon
