The Meteor Kid

Was passing through Adelaide for a few days on a connecting flight, and stopped by a couple of times to check both the City and Forestville stores out.

Hands down the most friendly and knowledgable people I’ve ever met in a music store. Guys were more than happy to show me their stock and just chat about instruments and players in general.

Fantastic selection of stuff. Also a cheeky pick, but they’ve got a Spector Euro 5 and a Hartke LH1000. Also in the store was a Billy Sheehan Yamaha, as well as some masterbuilt Warwicks.

Will definitely be coming back for another visit next time I’m around town!

So I’m giving these guys five stars, but wish it could be six.

I initially bought a DJI mic mini from a camera store in the city, they had no idea what they were selling, and didn’t even tell me I needed to purchase a lightning adapter to use on my iPhone 13 Pro. Three days go by of trying to find this specific part which is sold out world wide, I end up calling Derringers phone number. The guy on the phone told me they didn’t have it in stock, but ran me through heaps of other good options, and gave me the most helpful information out of anyone over the last few days. I ended up heading into the Forestville store and Tim helped me buy the rode microphone which is specifically what I needed in the first place. Shout out to this company, that is great service

I had a lovely experience shopping here over the weekend! It was quite busy for a Sunday but I was greeted instantly as I walked in the door and asked if I needed any assistance, after browsing without any pressure for while I asked for some help. The person who service me had a great broad knowledge on PA systems and microphones. They were able to answer all my questions and was happy to reiterate anything I hadn’t quite understood. I really appreciated that I was given their full attention and time – I walked away with everything I needed and as a beginner I feel like I have enough understanding on what I have purchased to feel confident using it! Thank you so much

By far the BEST guitar shop in Adelaide. The customer service is AMAZING, Super friendly and will go out of their way to help you out.
I thought I was looking for the impossible as I had a list of things I wanted in a guitar, ( I did a lot of research online and still couldn’t find what I was after) but the guys at Billy Hyde helped me find exactly what I was looking for. I’m loving my new guitar.
A MASSIVE thanks to Julius who went above and beyond to help me get exactly what I was looking for and ordered in the perfect case.
I can’t recommend these guys enough.
If you’re looking for a new guitar GO TO THESE GUYS, they will help you get exactly what you’re after.

I was looking to add an electric guitar to my collection and couldn’t be happier with the experience. I was assisted by Jackson who helped me select the appropriate guitar and accessories He was very knowledgeable and friendly and took his time explaining and demonstrating each one I was interested in. As a bonus the store is bright, modern and spacious and there is parking available out the front and in nearby side streets.

Purchased a Gibson Les Paul standard from Billy Hyde and to say I’m impressed with their service is an understatement. James, the salesman was able to do me a great deal on the guitar and an even further drop in price due to a visual defect which is hardly noticeable. 10/10 will spend my money there again over other music shops in Adelaide.

Can’t recommend these guys enough! Came in at 4pm on a Saturday with a bass electronics emergency (flew in from interstate for a gig and found bass not making any sound). Jackson managed to diagnose and fix the problem armed only with a pair of scissors and a soldering iron. Just awesome. Very grateful!

Had an awesome experience with Tom. Gave me a great rundown on which piano to get. I spent hours deciding playing around with different keyboards and he was super patient and non-pushy every time he came back to check on me. After sales support was fantastic too; he confirmed delivery dates and again made it hassle free the whole way through. He’s a great asset to the team!

Clarity is an awesome record store right on the southern edge of Rundle Mall. The store has a huge range of records,
CDs and gift items. Something for everyone. Customer service is excellent…went in looking for two specific items – didn’t have current stock but offered to order. I found something else there instead, which I am chuffed about. It’s definitely worth a look if in Adelaide Central.

While on a short business trip to Adelaide I had a little bit of time today. After doing some research on shops that might pique my interest, I visited Clarity Records, hoping to find some interesting music that was a bit off the beaten path.

I was not disappointed at all. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and recommended a number of local bands to me, that I would not be able to find at home. In addition there was an extensive range of metal and punk CDs,, which is something I greatly appreciate 🙂

Two thumbs up, and I will definitely visit the store again the next time(s) my travels take me there.

Long overdue review:
Very likely my favourite record store in the world and I’ve been to quite a few! The atmosphere has always been welcoming and joyful and it’s continued to become better and better over the years I’ve been there. Their stock ranges from the pop girlies to the metal heads! Matt and Laura are always so lovely, approachable, and eager to help! They have happily sourced me many vinyls over the years that I am very grateful for! Also the best place in SA for RSD with their midnight openings!

MY COMFORT RECORD STORE IN ADELAIDE OMGGG. When I first came here it was like my first day and I lost my phone. The people there were so nice and even offered to check the surveillance camera for me. When I was about to give up they looked for me and gave me back my phone. Turns out it was on the wooden ledge of the cafe next to it and a lady brought it back to the store :))))) I can never thank them enough for doing that ‘Cause they really don’t have to. I fished here twice for awesome buttons(tho I lost my beatles one twice). I get a bit nervous when I record dig, but staff are very nice and there’s a chill atmosphere. Definitely recommend. <33

Over a decade ago we bought our first piano from Australian Piano Warehouse (back when it was called Winston Music). Now, fifteen years later, we’ve come back and upgraded to the latest model—a dream! Although we’ve interacted with different people across that time (especially Philip in the past and now Sam), every aspect—instrument quality, sales & communication, recommendations & advice, store ambience, delivery (cheers Reg & Jack), after-sales service—has consistently been of the highest standard.

We think it’s remarkable for a business to offer this excellent service across such a long period and in spite of volatile economic conditions. But Dale Cleves and the team have done it! Congratulations, and thank you so much!

We’ve visited Piano Warehouse several times now, and each visit reaffirms why this store is our go-to for anything piano-related. On Friday, we initially stopped by to explore options for upgrading from my current keyboard to a piano that could also meet the needs of my partner, who is an advanced pianist. As always, the team was welcoming and enthusiastic, with every staff member lifting their head to greet us with genuine joy and excitement for all things piano.

The store itself is immaculately clean, and the staff are excellent communicators. We were torn between two options, but Sam took the time to help us solidify our decision. He demonstrated the features of the piano we were leaning toward and provided multiple examples that made us confident we were making the right choice. His passion and expertise made the process enjoyable, and we left the store that day thrilled to have placed our order for a Roland FP-90X.

The next day, we decided to make a small change to our order. When we called, Sam was more than happy to assist, making the adjustment seamless. Today, I visited the store again to upgrade the pedal unit, and Jack was just as cheerful, knowledgeable, and helpful as Sam had been. There was no friction whatsoever, and I even ended up leaving with a brand-new piano bench!

One of the things that stands out about Piano Warehouse is how much they encourage you to explore and interact with their products. They actively invite customers to play even the most expensive pianos, not to push for a sale, but because they’re genuinely passionate and excited to share their love for music.

It’s this kind of care and passion that keeps Piano Warehouse in the back of our minds whenever we need anything piano-related. We can’t recommend them highly enough!

Attended the store looking to buy bass equipment for my son, having called in advance to check on stock. The equipment was made available to try out on our arrival along with appropriate amplifier, cables and space. Staff support in particular from Justin was excellent – in terms of professional manner, product and music knowledge. Would highly recommend buying your stringed instruments and kit from this store, based on this and also various other visits in the past.

Just to clarify, this review is not about the store itself, but about one particular salesperson at the city branch (Saturday the 26th). I walked in and waited over 30 minutes while he assisted another customer on the computer—which is understandable—but during that entire time, there was no acknowledgment of our presence. When the customer finally left and it was our turn, the staff member still said nothing. I mentioned that we’d been waiting for half an hour, and his response was a sarcastic, mumbled “OMG.”

Despite the attitude, I proceeded with my enquiry to avoid wasting more time, especially since the store was closing within the hour and I had a long list of items. He took us upstairs, quickly showed us two items with barely any explanation, then walked off, leaving us completely confused. His tone throughout was rude, his attitude dismissive, and his service unhelpful at best. I eventually walked out, telling him I’d rather shop elsewhere, to which he responded with a mocking facial expression and a mumbled “whatever” in front of another customer.

People like this should not be in customer-facing roles. It was a genuinely disappointing experience.

That said, I drove to the Forestville branch straight after, and the staff there were the complete opposite—professional, attentive, and helpful. Thanks to them, I was able to purchase an entire home music studio. Big thanks to the Forestville team for showing how good service should be.

Placed an online order, 1 week later emailed and called to follow up an ETA as I hadn’t received any postage info. Got the run around on the phone, then got told the item was on 2-3 month back order. Refunded and purchased elsewhere but now it won’t be here in time for the birthday so disappointed with the lack of communication/fact that I was able to order something that wasn’t actually available.

Was a bit harder to get a discount than it was at the other derringers but to be fair the product was priced the same as the rest of Aus so I can’t really complain. The staff were polite and professional. Store was clean. Parking is naturally a nightmare but obviously not the stores fault.

An interesting place to visit, with two entrances to two shops, one with guitars and other instuments, and closer to Grenfelll St is the one that sells the electronics; mics, speakers, amplifiers etc.

This second one had the replacement earpads for my old Sony headphones.

Both staff members present were friendly and very helpful and ensured the pads fitted correctly. This was a great relief to me as I had never done that task before.

I will definitely be back, and appreciate their kindness.

I was recently involved in purchasing a Behringer B1C from Derringers Music City store in Adelaide. The manager, Cameron, was very helpful with initial purchase.

I was a little underwhelmed by the volume output of the Behringer and so I phoned the store to talk about the problem. Cam asked me to come in so we could sort through my concerns.

On arrival he set up another PA that I had inquired about so that we could run a direct comparison with the Behringer. Over the next hour Cam set up four other similar spec’ed portable PA systems and put them through their paces, set up mikes and tested the comparative outputs of each.
Nothing was too much trouble and Cam went out of his way to make sure that I was satisfied with the initial purchase.

Having had the opportunity to purchase and then experience the follow-up service offered by the Derringers Music Adelaide store, I would highly recommend this establishment.

Cameron is an example of how quality customer service should be delivered.

Thank you Cameron of Derringers Music, Adelaide.

Rerun is an absolute treasure! The staff are always so friendly, helpful and the loyalty card is beyond…. you only have to spend as little as $75 over 5 visits to get a $25 discount, quite generous and takes me no time at all to accrew my stamps.

What has prompted my review is that i buy records often, and have been guilty of online shopping in the past…however, I just don’t want to go past Rerun after the service i got last time. I was after a new release that wasn’t distributed in Australia, and find often that postage usually acquaints to the same cost as the item, particularly from the US.

Rerun were able to order my record cheaper than anywhere else i could source it AND i didn’t have to pay postage. AND it only took about 2 or 3 weeks. I asked if they made any profit on my order at all because i wasn’t expecting it to be so affordable…and they said they try to keep the price as low as possible for their customers when they can. They’ll always check with you first. Well, i am SOLD! It’s a charming cram packed little store with lots of variety from new releases, to hip-hop to 2nd hand treasures -and has that magic quality of being a physical shopping experience where you may stumble across gold without planning to. Stock seems to be updated weekly!

Been shopping here since they were back in Synagogue place….super happy to see an independent and local small business still serving the community all these years later despite the onslaught of competitive online retailers like Amazon and big wigs like JB poaching customers with competitive pricing most small businesses can’t afford. I choose to support this loving local, their services and shopping experience certainly serve me well 🙂 Thank you Rerun!

We bought a camera here from a guy named Stuart. Rerun Records didn’t sell film for it so we walked to another store in hopes of buying film for it. The man at the different store wouldn’t even let us buy film for it because it was “a brick”, and parts were missing, we were happy he was honest about this as we didn’t know much about cameras.
Took it back to Rerun Records, we asked Stuart politely for a refund and he started being really rude from the start, denying a refund because “it was a perfectly good camera”. He called the store who gave us a second opinion because he didn’t believe us, and THEN gave us a refund after finding out the truth. He became more rude about it saying “someone unlike you will enjoy this camera” or that “we don’t have the mindset and we don’t deserve a camera like this” and “what do you expect from a camera this price and this old?”.
We were okay with the price and how old it was, but we weren’t sure if it would work properly if another man told us it wouldn’t if there were parts missing.
He is a scam, and was just upset he lost a sale.

The store is really calm and quiet, so it’s great for those who have sensory needs.

Small but well-curated collection of vinyl, CD’s, and for the truly old-media among us, books. And with your choice of two excellent pubs across the street to sit in and admire your new acquisitions.

These cats have been in the music retail game a long time (as other entities) & bring that passion & knowledge to this store. Their range is dope, their pricing is non-extortionary & they don’t suffer from a sense of self-aggrandizement

I can’t believe how much interesting stuff they get in… Always find something new when I dig. Have bought several new and second hand vinyl records; also they have a great handpicked selection of books. Mark and the other guy (sorry, don’t know his name) can also get almost anything you want from abroad. Got some very hard to get left field Brazilian jazz from England recently. Highly recommended.

Went in to buy a new beginner guitar as someone who hasn’t been playing very long. Staff were so friendly and helpful – I usually find music stores quite intimidating as a newbie but they were really nice and (the best bit!) not just trying to rip off someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing.

A great assortment of stock and fairly easy to use website. In the past when I have visited the shop, they have been extremely friendly and keen for a chat.

I recently ordered a couple of pieces and it was delivered the next day with a nice note. This is the service and speed you get from dealing with a local business.

Once we are out of isolation, I will likely be popping in to try some gear out and a friendly chat.

Highly recommend.

Fantastic store with very helpful staff. The only place in town I could find an accessory for my Rode lapel mic. Great selection of guitars and ukuleles too for kids and adults. Everything from sheet music to kazoos. Well worth a look if you’re in town and need to visit a music store. I found the staff to be especially helpful.

Cool little store in a great location and I really like to support local music shops when I can but $24 for one set of guitar strings?!?! That’s crazy. When I asked if that’s the best price they can do, I was told I can try somewhere else..
Unfortunately I won’t be going back.

‘Consortium Music’ is a wonderful store with a huge variety of instruments & accessories to cover every players needs. The staff are most helpful & make you feel like your inquiries for equipment or instrument servicing is of upmost importance to them, old school style.
I’ve been a professional player for many years & always take my flutes to Joanne Bridgman & wouldn’t consider taking them anywhere else. When Jo has finished, my instruments are like new, perhaps even better & I can’t recommend her services enough, or that of the other fine repairers at Consortium Music. 5 stars from me.
