Tonkatsu
📍 Japanese restaurants in Adelaide
My recent visit to Tonkatsu was a mixed bag. The presentation of the food was very appealing, and the concept of a QR code ordering system is a convenient and efficient way to manage orders. The portion sizes were generous, and the variety of sauces available showed an attempt to cater to different preferences.
However, the overall flavour profile felt somewhat lacking. While the crispy coating on the pork was nice, it needed a bit more seasoning to really shine. The accompanying sides were acceptable, but didn’t quite elevate the dish to the level I expected given the generally positive reputation. It's a good option for a casual meal if you aren't looking for a truly authentic experience.

I had an incredible lunch at Tonkatsu. It was busy but ordering from the QR code made a tonne of difference. I had the chicken served with sautéed onions and eggs and it was sensational. Firstly, it was piping hot and second, it had delicate umami flavours which was unreal
Yummy! The meat is cut a bit thinner compared to Japan and the tonkatsu sauce is a bit too sweet but it was really enjoyable overall.
[REVIEW EDITED BELOW TO ADDRESS OWNER'S FEEDBACK] The food looked great, but the taste was sad. We ordered two dishes: - Mild spicy pork ramen flavor was just sad. Egg was overcooked, pork was kinda cold, broth was not flavorful, all I could taste was chilly oil and not much else. I have had better instant ramen than this. - Bite size pork + pork loin was an odd dish, because it looked amazing, the pork was hot and crispy, but, it had absolutely no flavor.... Don't know if the chef forgot to season the dish or it was just supposed to be plain, there was no sauce served with the dish. There was three sauces (tonkatsu, kewpie, and something else) on the table originally, but none went well with the tonkatsu. So overall, disappointing experience, would not come back. [Update:] - As a background bonus, I have been to Japan on a trip with my Japanese friend (who has lived there for 5+ years), and we went on a food trip for a whole week, may not sound like much, but mind you these are the local favorites, not the popular ones catered to foreigners taste. Ramen was my favourite dish so I can sincerely tell you, not for drama, that your ramen broth, meat, and noodles were extremely disappointing. - If the eggs don't appear to be overcooked to you after quite a few comments have mentioned so, then I don't know what to say. - No one said that your food wasn't freshly made, it was just not to the liking of a more specific group of customer. - We entered your restaurant precisely because of the previous good customer reviews, but we found it extremely disappointing to get what we did, and hence our low rating. - As for your reply to our feedback, it was dismissive, uncessary, and defensive. Instead of addressing my feedback, you mentioned "egg is not overcooked, our food is fresh. If our food is bad then why do we have a high sell volume each day? Maybe if you had experience authentic Japanese tonkatsu before, you would know...", yeah unfortunately I have experienced these dishes in Japan before, multiple times, and yours was just extremely lacking in comparison. - At the end of the day, we PAID for your product and was disappointed, instead of apologizing for us having a bad experience and address how to improve, you questioned our opinions and experiences. - By the way, the only thing that my partner enjoyed throughout our the meal was the cabbage next to your katsu...
It's a nice enough Japanese restaurant. The food was nice, but not the most flavoursome. The restaurant itself is nicely furbished and very clean, including the bathrooms as well. Service was very quick, and I also liked the extra effort the kitchen team does for the food presentation.
Order by QR code.Pork katsu is crispy and not oily. Like Ramen most, chewy noodles with rich broth. The price is reasonable.
i had dinner here and i order Seafood Katsu Set and Rosukatsu Zen (Pork Loin Katsu Set, for me the meat is pretty dry but there had a tonkatsu sauce for dip. anyways i like the salad and salad sesame dressing ❤️
Food tastes fine. Staff are friendly. Split bill which is great. My friend's set has a hotplate burner with it. Would be nice if the staff could remove the tray as soon as customers finished their meals. Otherwise it let out the burnt smell which was quite unpleasant.
