This is a great store with a great team. I volunteered with them for a year but now moving interstate. I was open to going back in future. A great place to shop and also a great place to volunteer if you have time to kill or need to get hours signed off. They always need volunteers.

At the risk of giving away my hard-earned op-shop secrets, Kings Park Salvo’s should be at the very top of your thrifting list – especially if you’re hunting for furniture or homewares! Parking is a bit tricky, as the single-lane driveway is narrow & can be quite challenging to manoeuvre/turn in if there’s more than a few cars parked. Once you’re in though, the staff are welcoming & friendly and there’s always someone on hand to help you lift your latest furniture acquisition into your car. I never come away empty-handed, as everything is fairly priced….unlike certain other Salvo’s stores (looking at you Mt Barker & Noarlunga, which are priced like vintage/antique stores!) Someone was complaining below about having to drag their pram up 2 steps at the front – but there’s actually a very wide disabled entrance at the side, so if you have mobility issues or have a pram don’t be discouraged by that review! Try and go during the week if you can, to avoid having to practice your 30-point turn skills to get out of the carpark

Bought a queen size bed frame from here but the customer service was very disappointing not one of the employees of this place helped or asking do you need a hand carrying the bed frame we bought. Could be they racist to my husband and we went home we saw there were holes like for leg stands on the legs of the bed frame, my husband said to me to call and ask about the legs stand does it included or not, however they not sure or don’t understand what I’m talking about, there supposed to have something for the hole. If there not any never mind. I added the picture about the hole on the bed frame I’m talking about. I won’t go here prefer going somewhere else.

I’ve been in this beautiful country for almost two years, and this is the first time I’ve experienced favoritism. When I walked into the store, I smiled twice at a young lady (mid or last twenties) with short hair, but she didn’t smile back. I thought maybe she didn’t see me

After finishing my shopping, I went to the cashier to pay. I saw the same lady smiling and speaking very kindly to an Ausi customer before me, which made me second guess her earlier reaction. But when it was my turn, I smiled again and said, ‘hi,’ only to be ignored once more. She didn’t say a word, scanned my items quickly, and threw the clothes toward me like they were trash

I understand people can have bad days, but it hurt to be treated so differently, especially when I saw her being so kind to the person before me. I’ve always thought of the Salvation Army as a place that spreads kindness, but this experience was the most disrespectful I’ve ever had

The lady at the counter was beyond unpleasant. I pop by to drop some items off but she rather acted as if I were bothering her or she was doing me a favour. Incredibly rude & with a terrible attitude.

This happened on Sat morning 7th of Dec, if I were the manager I’d want to know if my staff were treating customers in such way.

Thanks

I think this place is a joke. When we saw the prices my jaw dropped… Some old (not cool vintage) wedding dress was $800, broken picture frames $15 , jumpsuit I found was $70… Are you for real? Kmart is much cheaper than this joke.

On the fence. I am an op shop fanatic but the phrase that sprang to mind after I hit the “review” button was, “more style than substance”. The staff seemed nice. I suspect they’re carefully curating what they sell (probably take great pride in it) and I don’t doubt if you’re a size 8 or 10 you could pick up something terrific. If you’re not, good luck. Then again, you never know what you’ll find on any given day. And it is a quirky little shop.

Wow! I have never been to an op shop with such a great range of quality clothes! Even better was the fact they had sizes to fit me (12-14). Interestingly there’s also a good range of jewellery to choose from! It’s fast becoming a popular shop that won’t cost you the earth for whatever you choose to buy and you can always donate your pre-loved clothing and goods too, proceeds going to a worthy cause! The interior design and the arrangement alone deserves a 5 star rating. This is the best looking second hand store I remember ever visiting. Great Red Cross theme and very well organized areas. Need to get some consistency with customer service and volunteers in the store, not just people who are helping out for their Visa application points. Your goods are donated, it’s not eBay and it’s not Myer or a boutique. You cannot receive something that is clearly second hand and Google it and decide that a 100% polyester scarf that is pilling is $10.00. That’s ridiculous. It’s only acceptable if the item is in excellent condition.

Nice op shop with great finds to be found. absolutely floored with the beautiful kookai zip up i found for only 8$. i expressed these emotions at the checkout, that excitement was later dismissed as the lady behind counter added that i was able to “find the same thing at kmart”. i was immediately taken aback and slightly embarrassed. I felt as if my excitement had been suppressed. don’t dim other people’s flames to make yours bigger.

Vinnie’s had a 50% off dresses sale today. I tried to buy a dress with the sale and the storeperson claimed the item was a top not a dress, despite my telling her I had tried it on and it was clearly a dress. The storeperson refused to honor the 50% off dresses signage posted all over the shop and claimed it was not a dress because held up against her it landed at waist height. The dress was not her size, which is why it landed at waist height. I felt awkward about stating this for obvious reasons and left the interaction there.
In case there was any doubt, looking up the item online, the brand has labelled the item as the “[BRAND] Woman Aztec Print Fringe Multicolored Midi Dress”. It was a dress.
The exchange was overall unpleasant and unnecessary, and I do not recommend this store to others.

Well presented store with good quality items. I thought the prices were reasonable given it’s location. However, 2/3 of the staff were enough to make me not want to visit again. One person *literally followed us around the store*, not commenting or offering assistance, just staring. It was unnerving. If you need things to occupy your time, speak to your manager but don’t follow people around. And the other person, who I suspect was the manager, was very cold – she was straightening the racks and I lightheartedly apologised that I was just about to go through that rack and “try not to mess it up” and she just looked at me. Only the young woman behind the counter was friendly and helpful.

Frequently Asked Questions about Op Shops in Adelaide

What exactly is an op shop?

An op shop, short for opportunity shop, is a retail outlet run by a charitable organization. They sell donated goods, ranging from clothing and shoes to furniture, books, and homewares. The proceeds from sales are used to support the charity's mission, which can include a wide range of causes such as community support, animal welfare, and disaster relief.

Where are the best op shops located in Adelaide?

Adelaide has a great selection of op shops scattered throughout the city and surrounding suburbs. Areas like Unley, Glenelg, and Norwood tend to have a higher concentration of popular stores. It’s a good idea to explore different neighborhoods to discover hidden gems – many fantastic shops are located off the main shopping strips. Online directories and local community groups can be helpful resources for locating specific stores.

What kinds of items can I typically find in Adelaide’s op shops?

The range of items you're likely to find is incredibly diverse. While clothing and accessories are common, many op shops also stock furniture, kitchenware, toys, books, electronics (often untested), and collectibles. The inventory changes constantly, as it relies entirely on community donations. It's often a treasure hunt; you never know what you might find!

How often do op shops receive new donations?

The frequency of new donations varies considerably depending on the op shop. Some stores receive daily deliveries, while others may receive larger donations weekly or monthly. The best way to find out is to check the store’s social media pages or ask staff. Visiting regularly increases your chances of discovering something new.

    Are op shops expensive?

Generally, op shops offer incredibly affordable prices. Items are significantly cheaper than buying them new. Prices reflect the condition of the items and the charity's needs. However, some unique or vintage items may be priced higher, reflecting their rarity and desirability. It is a great way to find budget-friendly finds.

What condition are the items usually in?

The condition of items varies significantly. Most op shops strive to sell items in good, usable condition, but it’s common to find items with minor imperfections. It's always a good idea to thoroughly inspect items before purchasing them. Damaged or unsuitable items are typically recycled or discarded.

Can I donate items to op shops in Adelaide?

Yes! Op shops are always in need of quality donations. Most accept clothing, shoes, homewares, books, and toys. However, it's important to ensure that items are clean, usable, and in good repair. Many op shops have specific guidelines regarding what they accept, so it’s best to check their websites or contact them directly before donating.

What happens to items that can't be sold?

Items that are damaged, unsuitable for sale, or not in demand are handled responsibly. Many op shops work with recycling partners to ensure that textiles and other materials are diverted from landfill. Some items may be passed on to other charities or used for craft projects. The goal is to maximize the value of donations and minimize waste.

Do I need to pay attention to any specific rules or etiquette when visiting op shops?

While generally relaxed, there are a few things to keep in mind. Be mindful of personal space, as op shops can be crowded. Handle items with care, and be respectful of the volunteers and staff who work there. It is recommended that you always leave bags at the counter or in provided receptacles to prevent overcrowding in dressing rooms.

Are there any specific op shops known for unique or specialized items?

Some op shops specialize in certain items. For example, some might focus on vintage clothing or antique furniture. It's beneficial to do some local research and ask around to discover stores known for specific niches. Some stores have regular sales events that are particularly rewarding for bargain hunters. They often have themed days.
