Glenn Johnstone

I can’t recommend Belinda from Adelaide Hand Therapy enough. From the very first appointment, Belinda was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring. She took the time to clearly explain my condition, outline a treatment plan, and answer all my questions so I felt confident in the process.

Her approach was not only thorough but also tailored to my needs, which made a huge difference in my recovery. Each session felt productive. The exercises and techniques they provided were practical and easy to follow at home, which really helped me stay consistent.

On top of her expertise, Belinda created a welcoming and supportive environment. I never felt rushed, and she listened to my concerns. I felt anxious that my hand was quite bad and was going to be a very slow recovery . Thanks to her guidance, I’ve regained strength and mobility in my hand, and I feel like I’m finally getting back to normal life.

If you’re looking for a hand therapist who combines skill with caring and kindness then Belinda and the team at Adelaide Hand Therapy are the way to go.

It’s been an exceptional experience with City Physio and specifically with Physiotherapist Simon and the Remedial Massage Therapist Pavel. After suffering from whiplash due to a car accident. Simon’s expertise and care have been evident from the very first session. They listened to my concerns, provided a treatment plan, and have helped me make significant progress in my recovery. Both Simon and Pavel are professional and personable, with a down to earth approach. I feel confident and supported in my path to recovery.

靳崧

The worst physio I have ever been to. I had Mr Simon Mew treat me twice for headaches and both times were perfunctory. His “massage” was more like caressing, and he did it absentmindedly while playing with his phone (he only used one hand, the massage was intermittent without any force). After 15 minutes, he couldn’t wait to tell me that the treatment was over, without any stretching or daily maintenance advice, and didn’t even ask if I felt better. If he doesn’t know how to do physiotherapy, then he must be racist to treat me like this.

Leroy Morales

I’ve been to many different physios who all use massages as a recovery method, and after visiting them, I rarely found that I had received a good massage. Many of these physios would often go too light on the massages. This is the opposite with Linda; she ensures that she delivers an amazing hands-on massage, as well as the occasional cupping and dry needling session.

I’ve been going to Linda for about 6 years now for treatment of an ongoing inflammatory disease. Her treatment of my condition has always been excellent. Simon has also treated me for trismus following wisdom tooth removal, which was very effective and allowed me to talk, sing and eat without pain (I’ve never experienced pain like it!). Highly recommend her and the whole team at City Physio.

Dr. Keyvan Abak is deeply empathetic, kind, caring and a very safe person. I went to conventional therapy for years with little success, Keyvan helped me to change my life trajectory within four months. My results have been phenomenal. I highly recommend him to anybody seeking support, particularly with trauma related symptoms. He has a world of knowledge, wisdom and experience so I couldn’t recommend him enough.

We can’t thank Dr Keyvan Abak enough for everything they’ve done for my partner and our family. From day one, he has gone above and beyond — not just with medical care, but with genuine kindness, understanding, and support through some of the hardest times we’ve faced.

Dr Keyvan has a way of making us feel heard and safe, never rushing, always listening, and explaining everything with compassion and clarity. He has helped my partner manage so much with strength and dignity, and we honestly don’t know what we would’ve done without their care.

If you’re looking for a doctor who truly cares — not just about the condition, but the person — Dr Keyvan Abak is absolutely amazing. We’re so grateful.

Dr. Keyvan has helped me through the most difficult time in my life so far. Throughout my sessions there, there were many difficult conversations but I always looked forward to our talks and his open and curious demeanour.

Todd Laidlaw

I came to Dr. Keyvan Abak at one of the lowest points in my life. I was carrying deep trauma, struggling with my mental health as a man, and constantly battling the feeling that I wasn’t worthy of help, love, or even happiness. For a long time, I used substances to cope—because numbing the pain felt easier than facing it. I didnt even know I was carrying trauma until he helped me.

Dr. Keyvan changed that. From the very beginning, he listened without judgment. He gave me a safe space to speak openly—something I’d never really had before. He helped me understand the roots of my pain and guided me through it with compassion, honesty, and care.

He didn’t just treat my symptoms—he helped me rebuild my self-worth and gave me real tools to change my life. Thanks to him, I’m healing. I finally feel like I deserve to be okay.

If you’re a man struggling with trauma, addiction, or just feeling like you’re not enough, please know that help exists—and Dr. Keyvan is someone who genuinely cares and can make a difference.

We have recently started the aqua bubs swim classes with Vanessa at the beautiful new hydrotherapy pool. From the moment you walk through the doors, you know that you’re going to love it here. Firstly the staff are amazing. Carol at the front desk always greets you with a big smile and you instantly feel welcome! The venue is top class with automatic swipes to get into the pool area. It’s so clean and also peaceful. My 9 month old Oliver absolutely loves the classes. Vanessa is such a lovely, caring, fun and patient teacher. Wow… What a brilliant experience.
I’ve just had 2 total knee replacements 3 weeks apart! I’ve been committed to 3 times daily physio directed exercises on a bed and in a chair as part of my recovery, and this has delivered great results. However, adding hydrotherapy has been a stunning addition to my recovery. The facilities and environment at the Welland centre are absolutely first class, complimented by the friendly and helpful staff.
The difference that hydrotherapy has bought has been life changing for me, my knee flexibility and comfort has improved significantly after just a couple of visits, and the ability to do so much more physical training in a weight free zone has provided the best nights sleep since my procedure. I still do my home excises, my agility and ability to do this has been complemented by the addition of the hydrotherapy, and it’s a great pleasure, not a chore. 12° outside at 6am and 34° in the pool, what’s not to love, hardest decision is when to get out!
Adelaide Hydrotherapy has been a significant part of my recovery, congratulations and thank you for providing this wonderful service…

This is a fabulous hydrotherapy pool with terrific support staff who throw their doors and hearts open to children with learning needs/disabilities.

However, while this is great therapy for the kids and their carers, it also means that it’s virtually impossible for an adult to remain focussed on working through their own rehab program – the screaming and splashing is just too disruptive. Added to this are occasional pool classes which take up a good half of the area and are extremely loud. No chance to chill in the deeper water then!

The problem’s also compounded by the limited access hours that an adult can work on their own program ie 6-10am. To be sure of minimal interruption you need to be in the pool and finished by 9am.
before the children arrive.
So, great work guys and we’re all impressed by what you do. But how about a bit more planning for adult only time?

So pleased to have found this excellent facility. Rob and the team, Erin especially, are friendly, welcoming & very empathetic. My husband experienced a severe stroke a couple of years ago and is showing some positive outcomes as a result of his time spent at the pool which is a gloriously constant 34 degrees. My Mum & friends enjoy Jodie’s bubbly personality whilst exercising in her aqua fit classes and the swimming instructors are fantastic with the children learning to swim. The facility employs a Physio & Exercise physiologist which is great for anyone requiring strength conditioning or hydro rehabilitation. Highly recommend this facility to anyone with a disability & who enjoys exercising to upbeat background music

I went there with a client, the hydrotherapy instructor was extremely rude to me exercising his power and he was also trying to convince my client I was no good. Now I don’t know how he got that impression but next time I get treated like rubbish I will let him know and any staff that intervenes he should be doing his own job not intervening with rubbish gossip. I will report him if I have to, I have done nothing wrong.

Adelaide Hydrotherapy is a game changer! The new facilities are clean and warm and feel bright and fresh. The pool temperature sits around 34 degrees; far warmer than any other pool I tried. This is really important when doing rehab following an injury or post surgery. The warm water feels wonderful but also helps relax sore muscles, aches and pains. The showers are hot and the change rooms and bathrooms are kept spotless. No wet slippery floors to worry about. Jody, who runs the classes is wonderful. She keeps her eye on everybody and reminds them to work at their own pace and be mindful of their limitations. She is constantly educating so you understand what you are doing and why. You can see everyone’s confidence growing as their strength and mobility increases. All the staff you come in contact with are welcoming and encouraging. Suddenly it is fun to exercise and you won’t want to miss a single class!

I actually don’t know where I would have been without having time in Griffiths Rehabilitation Hospital. I had a total hip replacement on 3rd June, and after 3 days in hospital I thought I would be going home; however, I had been booked into Griffiths as an inpatient for 18 days (what my cover allowed).

When I arrived on the 6th June, I was terrified. It was new surroundings, new people, new expectations, and I wasn’t coping. For the first few days I was upset and in a foul mood, lacking confidence, and generally angry that I was here. But, on day 4 I turned a corner and realised the staff here were helping me to get better with no judgement.

The physiotherapists were amazing, encouraging me each day to increase my exercises, and generally supporting my recovery, both physical and mental. The nurses showed me nothing but compassion. The kitchen and cleaning staff were funny, chatty, and made sure I always had what I needed.

To Dr Wilkinson, thank you! You took time to explain everything to me and made sure the wound was going well. I am very grateful.

What I won’t miss is the constant bells going off, and overnight the blood pressure machines beeping in the corridor. I had to wear earplugs every night to get any sleep. Also, I am vegetarian, and even though I was catered for, there was no actual vegetarian menu and only occasional options on the main menu.

I highly recommend, if you can, staying at Griffiths post surgery or if you need rehabilitation for any reason.

The Dr. In charge is the most indifferent , cold eyed, unemotional Dr. I have ever met in my long life of evaluating people.

My father arrived to this facility after a hip replacement. His treatment was absolutely disgusting they tried to force him to have a brain scan claiming he had memory loss. It was nothing of the sort my father was up around walking completely ofvany medication with in the first week .
They kept him confined to his room all day in spite of my father being able to walk around unaided himself there agenda was to have my father placed in a nursing home .. my father is a fit man with total abilities on all levels .. a full investigation has been lodged with the treatment my father received at this facility and this place should be shut down I have heard many disturbing stories regarding this facility and there shameful practices .. general public please be truly aware and avoid this facility at all costs .

I cannot praise the doctors, nurses and carers enough at ward 1D. They welcomed my mother, awaiting placement into a nursing home, with smiles and the greatest of care. They make you feel like a part of a family. Not once did I have a bad experience with any staff. They were so personable and caring of my Mum. I wish to thank them and express my utmost respect for the way they treated every patient in my experience there. I spent so much time there and the way they knew my Mum and others in her room and the respect and care they showed was exemplary.
Thank you so much.

Doctors have no bedside manner. Also fancy reporting me for taking “to many painkillers” and reporting me to my dr how can one actually make that call when it was over the phone and I got woken up by the dr calling!!
Not to mention I was meant to have a trial of a Bladder pace maker had the phone call all was well told I’d get a call to organise to get it fitted 3 YEARS LATER STILL NOTHING!!!
I will be making a formal complaint!
I’ll be there tomorrow definitely not look forward to it…..purposely not going to these appointments nothing good about this place!!

My 93 yr mother was here for two weeks while waiting for placement in aged care facility…absolutely couldn’t wait to get her out of there, most of the time she never had her hair brushed, glasses were not on, crying alot, wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t brush her teeth. I’m a retired nurse/carer.. so I know they cut corner’s… she was miserable… went in one day, she was sitting in the hallway near nursing station, crying, sitting in her wet dirty pad, so I bought it to the attention of carer.. in which they did change her… wasn’t happy.

The nursing staff are second to none. Not having a doctor come and speak face to face once or twice a week is not the best especially when changing medications without speaking to the patients or a relative. Ward 1C does not give physio or other therapies needed by patients waiting for placement.
Its the government of the day that makes it this way so they need to put more into it and upgrade things from old ways to new ways such as heated food trolleys so the meals are kept hot from the kitchen to the wards, as RAH now has. One realizes its not the RAH but its time to upgrade most things so the staff are allowed to carry out services needed. Of course better pay and more staff should happen ASAP.
Staff serving cups of tea etc are friendly and make a nice hot drink and the cleaners are good too. Why make Hampstead staff pay for parking aren’t they working hard enough to a least earn free parking. We thank ALL staff for their friendliness and care and may God Bless them all.

I have been attending this Rehab facility now for 3 weeks and I couldn’t recommend it more highly. Being able to see a Physio, O/T and Exercise Physiologist during the one session gives great variety of Rehab. The staff are all very caring, well qualified and coordinated to ensure that the individual’s treatment needs are met. I have chronic medical issues which have already responded well to my time there. We are very fortunate to have this facility in our area!!

I was referred to pain clinic. Waited months.
Once I was contacted I visited clinic & each time I was asked to come in, it eas JUST talking to OT, or GP, or physio etc. Over & over again.

I was in too much pain & couldnt afford petrol the countless times I attended & NOTHING was done. . . But talk over the same things in a drs room.

Waste of time , money & energy. I decided not to go back as it was too much stress . . .

I broke both legs the right in 2 places and attended SpArc and improved mobility going from being unable to stand or move without walker to using a stick , driving and being mostly independent. I found staff and students helpful ,loved the pool and would go back in an instant if able. It took a lot of effort to get this far, exercises done daily at home and a determination to get mobile again plus not wanting to fail after the encouragement of physios.Thank you every one. PS a big thank you to receptionists who placed permit in my car when l needed a bit of help. Shirley Mather

I just read my discharge summary & I could not recommend attending this service. You make any protestations at all and you’re labelled “resistant” and “avoidant” and “having maladaptive cognitions about persistent pain”, while they act nice to your face! Pathologising, disgusting & condescending. I am actually 18 months down the track and have followed their recommendations with providers who actually respect me and earned my trust (not demanded it) and seen some improvement, but not even close to my old life/pre-diagnosis. I guess I just must not have been gaslighted about my own body successfully enough?? The only good thing to come out of my time here was getting help to get NDIS funding, as I am very confident any provider with an understanding of recent research in pain could have counselled me on what they told me, even Google would have been sufficient, they are not special. Yep. I’m soooooo resistant and avoidant and dysfunctional that I sought out NDIS to secure ongoing free access to weekly allied health support so I could keep strong and active. Explain that one.

Catalog of services offered by rehabilitation centres in Adelaide

    Detoxification Programs

Many rehabilitation centres offer detoxification programs as an initial step in the recovery process. These programs are medically supervised and designed to safely remove substances from the body, minimizing withdrawal symptoms and preparing individuals for further therapy.

    Individual Therapy

Individual therapy forms a cornerstone of rehabilitation. Licensed therapists work one-on-one with clients to explore underlying issues contributing to substance use, develop coping mechanisms, and build a foundation for long-term recovery.

    Group Therapy

Group therapy provides a supportive environment for clients to share experiences, learn from others, and build a sense of community. Guided by therapists, these sessions can address a range of topics related to addiction and recovery.

    Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) integrates medication with behavioural therapy and counseling. This approach is frequently used for opioid and alcohol dependence, helping manage cravings and withdrawal symptoms under medical supervision.

    Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a widely used therapeutic technique to identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors associated with substance use. It provides individuals with tools to manage triggers and prevent relapse.

    Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is particularly helpful for individuals struggling with emotional regulation and self-harm. It teaches skills for mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

    Family Therapy and Support

Family therapy and support recognizes the crucial role of family in the recovery process. Rehabilitation centres often provide sessions for families to address the impact of addiction, improve communication, and learn strategies for supporting loved ones.

    Relapse Prevention Planning

Relapse prevention planning is an essential component of rehabilitation. Centres equip clients with skills to identify potential triggers, develop coping strategies, and create a support network to maintain sobriety and prevent relapse after leaving the program.

    Nutritional Counseling and Support

Nutritional counseling and support addresses the often-overlooked connection between substance use and nutritional deficiencies. Rehabilitation centres provide guidance on healthy eating habits to restore physical and mental well-being during recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions about Rehabilitation Centres in Adelaide

What types of addiction do rehabilitation centres in Adelaide typically treat?

Rehabilitation centres in Adelaide offer treatment for a wide range of addictions. These commonly include alcohol addiction, drug addiction (including heroin, methamphetamine, and prescription drugs), gambling addiction, and sometimes behavioural addictions. Many centres offer specialized programs tailored to specific types of addiction or co-occurring mental health conditions.

What is the difference between detox and rehab?

Detoxification, or detox, is the initial process of removing substances from the body under medical supervision. It primarily addresses the physical dependence on a substance. Rehabilitation (rehab), on the other hand, is a longer-term process that focuses on addressing the underlying psychological and emotional causes of addiction, developing coping strategies, and preventing relapse. Detox is often a prerequisite for rehab.

What are the different types of rehabilitation programs available?

Rehabilitation programs vary considerably. Common types include inpatient (residential) programs, where clients live at the centre, and outpatient programs, which allow clients to live at home and attend sessions regularly. Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) offer more frequent and longer sessions than traditional outpatient programs. Some centres also offer specialized programs for specific demographics, such as young adults or individuals with co-occurring mental health disorders.

How long do rehabilitation programs typically last?

The duration of a rehabilitation program varies depending on the type of addiction, the severity of the addiction, and the individual's needs. Inpatient programs can range from 30 days to 90 days, while outpatient programs may last for several months or even longer. A comprehensive aftercare plan is often crucial for long-term success and can extend the overall support timeframe.

What therapies are typically used in rehabilitation centres?

Rehabilitation centres utilize a variety of therapeutic approaches. Common therapies include individual counselling, group therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and family therapy. Some centres may also incorporate holistic therapies like yoga, meditation, or art therapy.

How much does rehabilitation cost in Adelaide?

The cost of rehabilitation can vary significantly based on the type of program, the duration, and the amenities offered. Inpatient programs are typically more expensive than outpatient programs. Costs can range from thousands to tens of thousands of dollars. Many centres offer payment plans or accept insurance, although coverage can vary. Early investigation of financial options is recommended.

Do rehabilitation centres offer aftercare support?

Many reputable rehabilitation centres provide aftercare support to help clients maintain their sobriety and prevent relapse after completing the main program. This may include ongoing counselling, support group referrals, and relapse prevention planning. Strong aftercare support is a vital component of long-term recovery.

How can I find a reputable rehabilitation centre in Adelaide?

Finding a reputable centre requires careful research. Check for licensing and accreditation, read online reviews, and ask for referrals from trusted sources. It’s beneficial to schedule consultations with several centres to assess their philosophy, staff qualifications, and suitability for your specific needs. Consider the centre's approach to treatment.

What role does family involvement play in the recovery process?

Family involvement can be a critical factor in recovery. Many centres offer family therapy sessions and educational workshops to help family members understand addiction and learn how to provide support. Open communication and a supportive family environment can significantly enhance the client's chances of successful recovery. Addressing family dynamics is often a key component.

What should I do if I suspect someone I know has an addiction problem?

If you suspect someone you know has an addiction problem, it's important to approach the situation with compassion and understanding. Express your concerns in a non-judgmental way and offer support. Encourage them to seek professional help and offer to assist them in finding resources. Remember that addiction is a complex disease, and professional intervention is often necessary.
