Melissa Stefano

Yellow Door Care continues to provide government-funded services to my father, who has a long and documented history of sexual abuse and domestic violence. My mother the victim, has now been displaced from her home for over four months.

This is not a new story. In Australia, there is a long pattern of perpetrators being supported while victims are ignored. What I didn’t expect was to see it happen here. I didn’t expect a provider with a 5-star rating to participate in it.

Despite being informed of the separation, and the full history of harm, Yellow Door Care has made no meaningful attempt to respond in a trauma-informed way.

This review is not about seeking a reply. If you read this, you’ll understand why.

This: a 5-star rating suggests you are good at what you do. But you are not. You are not good at trauma-informed care. Your leadership does not demonstrate a moral compass. Because even within the limits of policy and red tape, people with integrity still find ways to protect those at risk.

You had that choice. And you didn’t take it

A caring and supportive residential facility.
Amy, the Lifestyle Co-ordinator is informative and has been most helpful with my visits to residents.

All nursing staff I have come in contact with have been kind and friendly to residents and me.

This is a large complex offering a variety of accommodation options.

There is a Cafe on the ground floor, just past Reception and a lovely Gift shop as well.
Although parking is limited (street only) I have always found a park, relatively close.
*Be aware COVID-19 has placed extreme pressure on Administration to ensure all residents and staff are protected. You must be Triple Vaccinated for COVID-19 and have had a recent Influenza vaccination.
*Allow 20-30 minutes to process through the main entrance. A RAT test, followed by temperature check and sign in.
There is help available if you need assistance.

The at home staff care are fabulous but the administration side let this company down. They are so unprofessional they back dated charges for a shower chair 2 years ren’t without notifying me first. The chair was given to me free as I was under hardship. Then they tried to say they notified everyone in a general news letter. Having worked in finance I know …this is on a billing platform and it’s illegal to do what they did. I didn’t get charged but I wonder how many old people they have fooled into paying.
Second problem 1 year later…They are still trying to claim charges from me from when I was under hardship claiming I have underpaid them. Yes i have accidently under paid but the $400 odd bill from hardship has been added in . Hardship was approved and free.
Third issue now they ring me near close of business September 2020 to tell me as from Jan 21 they have no funding for under 65 disabled customers yet can offer no explanation!
Rubbish either they tendered for the contract or they didn’t.

Went there to pick up some gear for a friend, bit of a drama with booking in as had to show proof of Covid vaccination and flu vaccination. KompleteCare initially presented as a provider offering comprehensive support for elderly care. Their team seemed dedicated, and the range of services—from personal care to household tasks—was appealing. However, a subsequent decline in service quality has become concerning, impacting the continuity and consistency of care provided.

The management appears to be prioritizing growth over the well-being of both staff and clients. It’s important to look for an agency that fosters a stable workforce and delivers truly personalized care, rather than simply expanding its reach, which is something I was not able to experience.

After struggling for 2yrs caring for my father I finally found Komplete Care. As the name suggests that is the experience I had with ongoing support around the clock, nothing was ever too much. My support person was Riley Young I can never thank her enough for the care and support she and her team provided. So much so when mums health declined I knew immediately who I wanted as Home Care Provider. Showering, house cleaning, gardening, one on one support. Kind supportive staff. I recommend them to anyone who wants their loved one safe, respected and supported through the ups and downs of ageing.

Started off a great company then grew to big and the service went downhill rapidly. Lost great staff due to management caring more about the $$ than their staff and clients. Rostering staff rude. Had great case workers but they left due to management. Reported a worker as she told me she had a police record in another state and nothing was done about her. Still works there! Would not recommend this company. I also work in this industry. Do your homework as there are some questionable companies out there.

My experience with this agency, Complete care has been absolutely appauling. They have been caring for my elderly Mother. I had a great relationship with her first case manager. Unfortunatly from day one in speaking to her new case manager. I found her to be very different. She would not rerurn my ph calls re my Mother. She has accusations about me that were not true without any proof. Because of her false accusations she had my Mum put under the Public Trustee for her finances to be managed by them. This was not necessary. This has devestated my Mother & made her to be very unwell & distrust this case manager. I must stress there are two carers that my Mother loves & who i highly respect for the care & the love they have for my Mother. I have tried to ring to speak to the owner of this company Complete care & the supervisor. Unfortunatly they refuse to return my calls. I have never yelled or abused them. Please beware. I am so saddened by their very unprofessional conduct. I have worked previously in rehabilitation & age care. You do not treat family members or the ones they care for in this manner. It has torn my Mother & really hurt our family. They have caused her to become even more ill & to distrust them. She did not need this. I have always suppoeted my Mother. Even to the point of spending 9 nights sleeping in her hosp room after a Triple Heart Bypass & much more. Please beware. I am far from happy. This is my hearts truth & experience.

The person who came to us (Jordan) to explain what KompleteCare could offer us as a service provider for our Home Care Packages was excellent. He took the time we needed to explain all the services, fees and procedures for signing up with this provider. Jordan is very knowledgeable, patient, friendly and clear in his explanations. He answered all our questions professionally and honestly, and the paperwork is clear too – no hidden charges.

We felt an instant rapport with him, and we both had some cultural and lifestyle similarities with Jordan. It was an easy process to sign up, and within 5 days, we have already been assigned a dedicated Case Manager, the same person for both of us. We have thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with Jordan.

If you are looking to find a service provider for a Home Care package, we highly recommend you ask for Jordan, and see how KompleteCare could help you.

I have so much thanks and appreciation for Kate snd the Home nursing solutions team.
When my daughter’s Caring organisation were no longer able to provide satisfactory service this company stepped in and were basically life savers.
They are professional, highly efficient, flexible and beyond all empathetic and full of good will.
Our family knew we were in great hands and my daughter established real friendships and love for the many staff members who were rostered around the clock taking care of her needs.
I don’t know how my daughter, myself and family could have survived her last 12 months without the blessing of Home nursing solutions.
I would highly recommend them for total and comprehensive care.

21/03/25. This is an update to my previous 2 Reviews:

It has only got worse for our Family since the last Review. We have had no choice but to take our concerns to the “Aged Care Commission” who has now started an investigation into the lack of Services and the Exorbitant Fees we are being Charged. We may have to pay back to Hender Care close to $10,000.00 (ten thousand).

30/01/25. This is an update to my previous Review:

We found out that the Care Worker who was dealing with my Mother’s file was working only part-time and our Family believe that probably they had no time to deal with everything they needed to do. They have since left Hender Care. About the middle of 2024, The Care Worker advised our Family my Mother’s Money needed to be all spent before we could get any more money allocated and we were asked to give Hender Care about $2000.00 to continue the service. We contacted a Government Department last year and we were told the information we were given about having to first spend all the money allocated to my Mother was incorrect. I found out in the last couple of days we now have about a $6000.00 Debt to pay back Hender Care. We are slowly paying it back. Our Family feels completely let down by this whole Elderly Support thing. No words can be written here on how Gutted, Stressed and let down we feel. Unfortunately I feel this horror will only end when my Dear Mother finally dies.
END.

We have been with HenderCare for a few year now for the care of my Mum. The Management team at the time of our joining were great, but alas the current team are hopeless, can not describe them any other way. Messages are not passed on when you call them, are the least of our issues. Mum got Covid in August 2022, and after spending time in a Public Hospital, went for Rehabilitation at a Private Hospital. The Social Worker at this Private Hospital advised our Family my Mother should be placed on a level 4 Care Package and said she had submitted the paper work for this, and advised us to contract HenderCare to do their bit. 2 years on, Nothing, endless phone calls to the person in HenderCare responsible to deal with this, has come to Nothing… 2 years have passed…Nothing. Endless phone calls by my Family to HenderCare have amounted to Nothing. First they said the money available for my Mother’s level 3 Care Package has to be completely spent before they can do anything to arrange for the Level 4 Care Package. Now that the money has completely dried up, my Mother has had to stop Hydrotherapy, Physiotherapy and other services. The OLD Management Team were great, they arranged everything, they dealt with Mum’s Level 1 to 2 Care Package with no Issues. this Management Team has expected our Family to arrange services and chase things up for my Mother and let them know afterwards. Well what can I say STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY….. If you are wondering why we are still with them, I will tell you…..IF IT WASN’T FOR MY MOTHER’S CARER. Teresa, who my Mother loves greatly, we would have left ages ago. My Mother is very elderly and is attached to her Carer. ….We have taken our complaint further.

I’m giving one star because of the incompetence of their staff and office, either the office stuffs up shifts or people don’t turn up. We’ve had no consistency for the year we’ve been with them. And have to get popup to cover the short staffing issue for personal care shifts. We’ve tried having cleaners but hendercare can never supply a worker. Either the worker never shows up, or the staff are sick with child. Pathetic excuses because we always have to follow up the issues. The communication is rubbish. It’s always us contacting them for issues. And we are looking for a new provider because we are fed up with their excuses. We’re paying them big money just to organise pop up staff. Which I could do myself for my elderly father with his care package. Would not recommend. Oh and since we’ve been with them we’ve had 3 coordinators. So the consistency is amazing. Amazingly trash.

Don’t use Hendercare, there are far better alternatives for Home Care Package Providers in SA. Totally disorganised, scheduling problems are constant (usually queries are met with one of three excuses that they use or lies), coordinators don’t contact you unless contact is initiated by the client (our coordinator, April, was rude and abusive) and the fees charged are usually incorrect (to Hendercare’s benefit).
I feel for anyone elderly who doesn’t have a relative or friend to help them battle through the nightmare that is Hendercare.
We changed Home Care Providers a few months ago and the service to clients and the options for care are far better, I wish we’d changed providers sooner.

Lovely people, but utterly disorganised.

It took approximately 6 months to get a regular gardener organised. Some would start, work or two appointments and vanish. No communication from hendercare.

Have phoned 3 to 4 times to get Dad’s cleaner hours increased, but never happened.

You NEVER hear about anything in advance and always have to chase.

Most recently the worker taking Dad to his covid appointment didn’t show up and had to chase this as well. Apparently she’d phoned in sick which no one bothered to tell us.

I’d recommend finding a company that is actually able to function. Given how much we pay in fees per month, it’s actually insulting how poorly managed they are.

My 87 year old mum uses Hendercare through her NDIS package for house cleaning and gardening. Cleaner doesn’t turn up? There’s always the excuse of the girl that cleans your house has a sick child and cant make it, OR your cleaner is on 5 weeks holiday, OR my favourite, the girl that cleans your house just didn’t turn up for work?
So 3 out of 5 times my mother has to change her appointments so to be at home “When the girl can actually make it”.. OR my mum has to clean her own house because Hendercare are Hopeless and can’t even organise their own staff to be consistant. Then there’s the gardener who turns up with a bucket and a small folk, he never pulls all the weeds out and just buries them by turning over the soil. Again, mum has to weed her own garden after he leaves because he doesn’t do it properly. I graded Hendercare as 1 star, that’s only because I can’t make comment with 0 stars. I’m going to write to NDIS on behalf of my mother because this is just not Good enough. The cleaner turned up today, (she was suppose to be here yesterday) and because my 87 year old mum had already cleaned the floors etc, the cleaning lady basically did nothing for the time she was here. It stresses my dear ol mother everytime and just keeps happening. NOT GOOD ENOUGH HENDERCARE.You suppose to help and care for our elerdly. NOT cause them more stress and worry.

A very belated but very heartfelt ‘Thank you’ to this amazing community service. This is the 2nd time in a very short amount of time we have been lucky enough to take advantage of the care offered for wound management. We cannot speak too highly of the calibre, care and expertise of every nurse who has been here. They have all been so kind, thoughtful and efficient- especially Surish B and Michael ! The Reception staff too have been extremely helpful in arranging different times when applicable for our convenience. This has been MUCH appreciated!
Top marks to you all ! We are so very lucky.

I have always had the utmost respect for the medical organisation but Calvary Community Care are incompetent beyond belief!! First the organisation informs me they would not administer the medication the doctor had prescribed for my 89 year old mother because it was against their policy yet 4 of their nurses had previously administered the same medication 1 month earlier as prescribed without any questions. Second after many phone calls I was and still am very annoyed the organisation told me they would administer the medication for my mother as prescribed by the doctor and would be at my home at 6.30 that night. Then the organisation informs me they would not be able to send a nurse that night and could I find an alternative?? I am absolutely amazed that a medical organisation has the ability to ring someone and suggest I find an alternative to take my mother after dark to administer her medication. I’ll make no apology how angry I spoke to the representatives of this doggy second hand car yard and they will probably make some excuse they were frightened to attend my mother because of the way I spoke to them! Let me remind Calvary Community Care, you are dealing with peoples lives not a coffee order!

Poor communication skills. I was supposed to have support 11am today. With no communication they changed to tomorrow with me wondering why nobody has turned up. And lying to me saying that I agreed to the change of day

My 93 year old blind mother who has Calvary Care attend her twice a day for a few years now, to administer daily medications and deal with her colostomy bag. Most staff are good, but there have been many ,many phone calls and emails sent to Calvary Care co-ordinators with instances of tablets found on floors(6 this year alone)and signed for as given..visits cancelled with no notice, used colostomy bags left on kitchen table and in kitchen bin, colostomy changes not done ,and staff not following directions for electric gate opening and closing when leaving,.Phone calls to Calvary are often met with an assurance that someone will ring back ,which has not happened on occasion, and emails sent are answered with an apology and an incident report lodged,or risk management put in place ,but things have not improved .I dread to think how vulnerable people with no family to intervene for them would cope .It really is unacceptable ,but we are unsure of what our next step should be

I have been under the care of the wonderful Calvary community care nurses for 2 months for wound care management post operativley. They have been fantastic! Kind, caring, and very professional. I can’t speak highly enough of my experience with them! I wish to thank them all very much. There are 3 in particular who visited me regularly and they know who they are. A huge thank you to you girls!! You all made my day

I was told that they were unable to cover shower shift Wednesday morning, not good enough when vulnerable people are relying on that support. Showering is a basic need & to not offer the support required leaves me without showering.for six days & my hair not washed for over a week. As a registered nurse for fifty years & one who worked for a support service, where we never left a shift uncovered, it’s distressing. The idea was to have support which is conducive to a positive recovery.

Saturday 2 January

Told support worker would be here at 9:45am but no has arrived. I rang to find out when they were coming & was told that due to a software glitch no one would be coming today. I wasn’t permitted a shower on Thursday reducing me to only two showers this week, supposed service was shower support three days per week, & it’s three days since my last shower. I made it very clear that I wanted a shower today & would not be put off! I will be giving feedback to the MRU! I wonder what happens to those clients who are not able to stand up for themselves, no doubt there are many clients who don’t have the care worker support as arranged & go without the service.

The nurses that actually come and help with mums shower are very good however they are Drastically under staffed. I have been informed by a number of the nurses that I should be getting a phone call first thing in the morning as to when to expect the nurse however when I rang today at 11:00am to find out if a nurse was coming out, Mel who answered the phone sounded unsure as to what was happening but sent a message to the nurse coming today. When the nurse rang immediately afterwards, she was unaware that she had to call clients first thing in the morning.
Obviously agency nurse. This service relies TOO Heavily on agency nurses who are not always familiar with the procedure. This can result in distress for some people.. I would love to have given a higher rating but unfortunately system efficiency and adequate staffing is lacking.

Frequently Asked Questions about Home Care Services in Adelaide

What exactly are home care services?

Home care services encompass a wide range of support provided within a person’s own home. These services are designed to assist individuals who require assistance with daily living tasks, allowing them to maintain their independence and remain comfortable in their familiar surroundings. Assistance can range from light housework and meal preparation to more specialized care such as medication reminders and personal hygiene support. The key is that support is tailored to individual needs and preferences.

Who is eligible for home care services in Adelaide?

Eligibility for home care services in Adelaide isn’t strictly defined, but generally, it's targeted towards individuals who are older, have a disability, or are recovering from an illness or injury and need assistance to continue living safely and independently at home. Assessments are typically conducted to determine an individual’s specific needs and eligibility criteria, considering factors like functional capacity, health status, and support network.

What types of services are typically offered?

The types of services offered can be quite diverse. Common offerings include personal care (bathing, dressing), domestic assistance (cleaning, laundry), meal preparation, medication reminders, transport assistance to appointments, social activities and companionship, and sometimes even nursing care provided by qualified professionals. The service plan is personalized to address the individual's unique needs.

How do I find reputable home care providers in Adelaide?

Finding a reputable provider involves careful research. Start by seeking recommendations from friends, family, or healthcare professionals. Check with government agencies or community organizations that list accredited providers. Look for providers who are registered with relevant governing bodies and have positive client testimonials. Don’t hesitate to ask detailed questions about their staff, policies, and quality assurance processes.

What is the difference between government-funded and privately funded home care?

Government-funded home care is typically provided through programs like My Aged Care and is often means-tested, meaning eligibility depends on an individual’s financial situation. Privately funded home care is paid for directly by the individual or their family and often offers a wider range of services and greater flexibility. Many individuals use a combination of both government and private funding.

How are costs determined for home care services?

Costs are determined by a variety of factors, including the complexity of the care needed, the frequency and duration of visits, and the qualifications of the care providers. Some providers charge an hourly rate, while others offer package deals. It's crucial to obtain a detailed cost breakdown upfront and understand any potential additional charges.

What qualifications do home care workers have?

While requirements can vary, most home care workers complete a Certificate III in Individual Support or equivalent qualification. They receive training in areas such as first aid, infection control, and manual handling. Higher-level care, such as nursing care, is provided by registered nurses with appropriate professional credentials.

How is the safety of home care workers and clients ensured?

Reputable providers prioritize safety through various measures. These include thorough background checks for all staff, risk assessments of the client's home environment, training on incident reporting, and adherence to strict infection control protocols. There should also be clear procedures for handling emergencies and reporting any concerns.

What if I’m not satisfied with the care being provided?

If you have concerns about the quality of care, the first step is to communicate your feedback directly to the provider. Many providers have formal complaints processes. If you’re still unsatisfied, you can escalate the issue to relevant government agencies or regulatory bodies responsible for overseeing home care services. Maintaining detailed records of any incidents is advisable.

Can home care services be adjusted if my needs change?

Yes, home care plans are designed to be flexible and adaptable. As an individual’s needs change, the service plan can be reviewed and adjusted accordingly. Regular reviews are typically conducted to ensure the plan continues to meet the individual's evolving requirements. Open communication between the individual, their family, and the provider is vital for effective plan adjustments.
